Yes
I have built a lightbox but only have one YN565EX.

Does any one have a fairly cheap recommendation to add lighting from the sides?

I've had a look in the Argos book but all pretty expensive for my needs.

Could you get by with a window and/or some homemade reflectors (crumpled up then flattened foil) ?

I'm hoping to take this mobile and/or make a better one from plastic tubing.
I can't be guaranteed any light so thought a couple of cheapo lamps might help.
I also have a DIY ring diffuser too.

No. Even a hot-shoe gun in a softbox will be way brighter than those. And you'd need to sort out the different white balance problems.

You'd probably do better to learn a little more about lights and lighting before rushing down the DIY route. Lighting equipment is generally ripe for a bit of DIY, but you could waste a lot of time making the wrong thing. If in doubt, take a look at some commercial kit and copy it ;)

The DIY is just for a bit of fun. I have seen decent DIY lightbox attempts but I'm not really prepared to go out and buy another 565 (or similar) right now.

I use two cheap goose neck desk lamps, from argos, and an angle poise, for the top ... seems to work ok for me.

Are they the 7.99 ones with 20W halogens Paulie?

That sounds about right (from memory), if there is a clear base version, then yep .... Admittidly not the brightest of lamps, but cheap, and manouverable ... Work well with the big old angle poise above ...

All the lightbox shots on flickr are done with this combo. linky

Thanks.

I don't want to end up spending ££ on three lamps I'll hardly use so I'll keep looking to see if I can find some freebies or cheaper ones.

Have a look in charity shops too ... There might be something there, you could adapt ..

I was thinking more like nipping over to my mother's house while she's out!! :D :D

Hi Doug have you considered them halogen work lights I think you can get them for about £5each

I did consider the halogens as I have some in the garage but they get VERY hot.
