Well, I completed my DIY light tent today and had a quick test this evening. Overall I am quite happy with the lighting and it certainly worked out a lot better than I had hoped it would.

It's approximately 1m cubed which is quite big, but I specifically needed it to be that size in order to shoot a special cricket bat in a few week's time.

Here are a few test shots - nothing too glamorous!

1. Even powered

2. Left at 1/3 and right at 1/8

The setup using as best a pic as I could get, given the space I was in, is below...

Looks a darned fine job to me Graham. Iwas thinking of making one myself for product photography as I quite enjoy beating the manufacturers at their own game.

Could I ask you what the shiny white background is?

Thanks Bob. This sort of thing would be perfect for product photography. The only downside going the DIY route is that it is not as portable/fold-away-able as the retail versions. A darn sight cheaper though! Well, at this size anyway...

The shiny background is two pieces of shiny paper that I got from the local art shop. The front one just goes over the back one where the little clamp is to complete the seamless look.

Thanks Graham. The portability would not be an issue for me as I photograph the products at home.

Can you tell me what lights those are that you are using, great result Graham.

Thanks James. These are Multiblitz Vari 5 lights. Love them but don't use them enough!

Thanks Graham,really well done.:)

Been looking at the cheap end of the spectrum to use for making better photos for some stuff I'll be throwing up on the bay of evilness and/or its local branch of all things gummy.
How much did it wind up costing?
