Hello all,

My garden and patio are higher than the house and as the nearest drain is at patio level Plus I have dogs I am finding that the water used to wash the yard off and rain water are collecting at the house end meaning every time you stand on a slab water splashes out. This cannot be doing the house any good and I'm guessing the remains of the cellar ( filled in) are slowly filling up. So my plan was to make a well under one of the slabs near the house and place a pump in that automatically pumps the water back to the drain once it gets to a certain level. Does anyone know how to do this ?

Thanks all.

I am a scientist/professional engineer (or was until I retired) but I would seek expert advice in this case. I would be concerned about all that water in what was a cellar. You could try telling your home insurance company and they would probably employ appropriate experts (and pay for them) to protect themselves from a large claim but they would hold this against you with increased insurance costs and other insurers might also do the same.

:agree:
I do not think a DIY route is appropriate.

If the situation is as you describe, old cellar filled in etc., then whoever did the job failed to put suitable mitigation in place bearing in mind the sloping site and water collection at the lowest point.

PS if you have in effect a large mass of hardcore, soil & other unknown materials under/against the house that has become water logged/saturated to the point where 'pressure' on a (patio?) slab is forcing out excess water.......just consider what long term effects may already have been done to the fabric of the house?

Best of luck getting it sorted out (y)

Thank you everyone , I had no idea you could by pumps with built in sensors ! I will have to investigate further.
