Follow on from my other thread about going to Egypt on holiday alot of you said the diving out there is abolutely amazing.:)

So I have enquired about learning to dive here in Guernsey to get My PADI cert.

The course will give me one on one tution with all gear supplied, all for £400.
the course though will tech me to dive to 18 meters, so a couple of questions

1. will this depth be deep enough for the Red sea to see what I need to see.
2. Do they hire all the gear over there i.e wet suit, fins, etc tec etc.
3. Even though I will have a PADI cert to say i have done the course i will have no real dive experience apart from the 4 dives i will have done on my course, will this be a problem to get some diving in.
4. How much will I be looking at to dive in the Red sea??

All info will be much appriciated

thank you

Spike

Hi Spike,

To answer a couple of questions

1. Yes, maybe, no. The Red Sea at Sharm is deep, 18meters is plenty to see lots, and more then enough straight off your PADI OW but as you're experience picks up you may want to go that bit deeper
2 Yes
3.No problems with your certificate but be honest with the dive centres and guides and they'll cater for your needs. Most will ask about number of dives anyway
4. Not sure - the last couple of times I've been out there have been live a board

Cheers

Hugh

i did it in egypt in JUly and I think it cost me £90 for 3dives on the same day including hire of all kit. The first dive was a shallower check dive as I hadnt dived for a yr or so and they wanted to make sure i remembered it all.
As stated be honest about the number of dives you have done id only done 5 and so im sure they then watch you a lot more to make sure you are safe. Youll have no problem though so just enjoy it. some people on our boat had no padi at all and were taken down by an instructor holding onto them to a shallower depth...
Just remember how to fill in your dive log and work your tables correctly as I was left to fill this in myself and was very rusty....

ooh and dont forget to take a decent mask and snorkel for just snorkelling around it is amazing.
