I never thought a thread like this would be started by myself.

I took the camera out yesterday to get some nice pictures of my GF with her families dogs, got some and when we looked through the camera later in the afternoon they looked great.

Came home and she asked if she could take a look, as I shoot in RAW I said they probably won't load on your laptop but we will try anyway. So plugged them in, and as expected, RAW files didn't load, but the photos were there.

I took the card out the laptop and put it on the side until this morning when I went to import them into LR and found nothing on the card since Donington Park on Friday. No sign of anything. I run a few searches around both laptops for anything created, modified or named in the last couple of days, still nothing, back on the camera and it was like they never existed?!

Any ideas at all? I'm really gutted as they were going to be for a family members Birthday present. The file we tried to open on her laptop wasn't even one from yesterday, but from the trackday on Friday. I'm totally confused.

Bit of an update.

Cleared the card down of old photos. Used space says 2.10 GB, actual files I can find on the camera, 350mb. So they are there, but not visible?!

Tried in Windows, Mac and Dos to hunt for the files, nothing, tried a file recovery program, still nothing. I can find all the files I removed this morning but not my images.

I'd be guessing and say the first computer has deleted (or affected) the data file that shows whats on the card, have you checked to see if the first computer has downloaded anything? if so you might find the "missing" data file.

try -
http://www.z-a-recovery.com/digital-image-recovery.htm
or
http://www.piriform.com/recuva/screenshots

both free and see if you can recover

i suspect there was a setting on the laptop import to delete the files - you may want to check that
also
you maybe able to see raw files on laptop and copy those onto a usb drive

what windows version - Microsoft has codec for seeing RAW files with windows explorer - I would load that onto GF laptop - as i'm sure this will happen again in the future

see here for codec

You might also try this - open the card where the "missing" files are and select (Windows 7 for me) Organise - Select all, now I know you can't see anything but if you then paste the files into a new empty folder they should be copied over and with the codec above you should hopefully see the .cr2 (canon raw) files then.

As per #2, I tried data recovery software. I can find my files I deleted prior to this, but not them.

I'll get the Codec loaded but to be honest, I'll keep them to my own next time. There is no import and delete rules as when I plug it in now it pops up saying what would you like to do next?

Tried this, I have hidden files displayed by default :(

To make matters worse, my camera is mocking me. I thought if there is no record of them it will continue numbering from the last set I imported, nope, last one ended at 2843 and next is 2953.
