Dioptric adjustment wheel

Hi... I have several questions all on the one subject of adjusting a dioptric adjusting wheel.

I have reading glasses (appx +150) and distance (appx -150). Normally I dont wear either except the distance ones when I am driving.

But, I dont know what I should be doing, or shall I say, how to adjust the setting.

Should I make the adjustments when wearing my reading or distance glasses or neither? Then should I wear those glasses when taking any photos?

When I try setting it I dont have a clue to what I should set it to when using manual focus. Obviously it has to be set before shooting but should it be set to blurred and the correction will then give a sharp picture, or should I set it to sharp and if so, would the picture not be blurred due to my less than 100% vision. When I use auto focus my photos come out sharp, but in manual focus I try to focus on a subject and although reasonably good they are not nearly as good as the auto focus.

Are there any tips or tricks to set dioptric adjustment before focussing?

Lastly, is there any situation where the wheel will have to be adjusted again?

I hope I have explained this how I mean it but fear I will have to explain again.

Thanks

Nigel

I do not normally wear glasses when walking around etc.
I do wear glasses always, when driving
I do wear a different prescription when reading

My camera viewfinder is adjusted so thet the info on the screen appears sharp when I am not wearing glasses.
It is a once only adjustment and I do not change it.

I do not use glasses when looking through the viewfinder, however I do need my reading glasses if want to look at the screen on the back (Chimping) or any of the smaller details on the top display etc.

Hi, I wear glasses for reading and driving but when I set the diopter I just use naked eye and focus on the the focusing points in the view finder.

The diopter only affects the focus in the viewfinder, so adjust the diopter to suit how you would nomally shoot.
Lastly, is there any situation where the wheel will have to be adjusted again?
Yep.
If it becomes unadjusted ie: if you knock the adjustment wheel etc.

Firstly Nigel, welcome to TP.

I'm of an age now that While I'm marginally short sighted, I also need reading glasses. I can get away without wearing any correction when out and about (and can see well enough without to drive) but if I'm driving somewhere, I'll pop a contact lens into my right eye to I improve the vision (I leave the left uncorrected so I can see the dash!).

Depending on the correction status of the right eye, the dioptre adjuster needs a twiddle and it's so easy to do that it's not a chore - like others, I use an element of the in-finder display to adjust the thing as required.

I wear reading glasses and I have used them occasionally when shooting so I just reset the dioptre to suit. Most of the time I shoot without my glasses so it doesn't get altered very often, but it seems to catch me out every time I do change it cause I forget to re-alter it when I'm finished. I always think I've got a lens problem when I cant focus the next time I use it until I remember. I think that must be another problem with getting older, not just the eyesight failing.
