Stay, unless you want to buy a new laptop?

As for browser, it's really a personal choice, I prefer Internet Explorer.

Sorry using my phone...

If it has 2GB of RAM it will run Windows7 OK, but it's a lot of upheaval if that's your main/only machine.
At 5 years old high time to be looking at a newer one with better graphics or whatever too.
You could then consider a project of zapping the old XP one with a W7 disc if you like it.

My expereince is that XP now has so many updates and fixes that a less well specced computer seems to struggle to run it without intermittently bogging down for more than a few months, even with minimal programs installed.
I have two older ones I changed over to W7, and even the desktop that's almost ten years old is much more responsive now even though some of the flashy 7 features can't run on it.

I am still on XP and holding off as long as i can before going win7 ..

When you say faster? if your laptop is 5 yrs old i cant really see putting win7 on making it any faster.. you still have the same processor and memory to work wiht but a bigger operating system to contend wiht... Probably run slower.

ADDYONBIT: I posted the above while 4wd was posting so didnt see his response and hes actualy done the deed :)

What make and model is your laptop? I have installed Win7 on a number of old laptops and have not had any issues.

Before you decide to try you need to see if the cost is worth the upgrade? And if all your apps work with win7.

With regards to browser I have just started using Chrome and like it.

I agree, there is a chance (it could be more than a chance depending on the spec of your laptop) that your current machine may struggle with Windows 7.

More importantly, I think, is do you feel you can't do things with your current set up or is it causing you problems?

If not, I'd stick with XP, if it works for you, why change it? Support from Microsoft for XP will continue until April 2014 so it will not become unworkable for a while yet.

As already said browsers are personal. I've used IE, Firefox, Chrome, Opera and Sleipnir. I like Firefox best but probably more because I've set it up the way I want, than it being 'better'.

this all over.

id save your money and put it towards a new laptop.

and as for browsers, i prefer IE9 these days. firefox is bloated rubbish and chrome ive never liked for some reason (plus you have googles data collection policy to worry about).
