Digitising Old Negatives - Advice wanted!

I've got the use of a device for digitising 35mm slides and negatives, but I have some even older larger negatives in a variety of sizes.

Any advice from someone who have experience of turning such negatives into digial files would be appreciated.
 
I've used a flat-bed scanner for 6x6, 6x9 and 5x4 negs with some success. I was sceptical about the quality but it proved to acceptable up to A4.
