Hello, I am thinking about getting my bf a digital camera for xmas (point and shoot), one bcos I think he may like it and two because it may get him into photography and I will get an easy life ;)

Anyway, can anyone recomend a decent one around £100??

Thanks in advance :D

Canon Powershot A1200 is a brilliant little camera for that money. My son took one around the world with him and took some fantastic shots.

This has an optical viewfinder as well, and takes AA batteries.

Nikon S3100
The Nikon Coolpix S3100 may be a budget digital camera, but that is no excuse for the lack of quality in the pictures it produces. There are plenty of digital cameras to choose from if you are looking for a basic pocket digital camera. This one is best avoided.

Canon AS1200
If you are looking for a simple digital camera that offers that bit of extra quality for a low price then the Canon Powershot A1200 could well be your answer. It offers greater picture quality than a lot of more expensive digital cameras. There are also one or two impressive features thrown in for the price. Recommended.

Hope that helps!

Hehe, I won't get that Nikon one then... The Cannon one does look good, but I know he will deffo want a lithum battery. :)

Argos have ther Nikon L120 bridge camera at £120 - 1/2 their normal price. Really nice camera except for the lack of viewfinder.

Just got this one for my Daughter for christmas, It looks a cracking camera for the price

Hello, just looked at that bridge, it looks good, but maybe a bit on the latge size for him to carry in his pocket.. remember I am trying to get him interested ;) :D

I'll get him back for him buying me a Playstation hehe

I bought a refurbished Canon S90 from Canon's official refurbisher for £137 on eBay.

I know that's slightly more than you said but you'd get a top notch compact and still 12 months warranty.

If you want new, I'd always stick with Canon for point and shoot personally. They just work well and take great photos.

It sounds like he is interested if he is being so fussy about a Lithium battery. The rechargeable AA batteries last a long time especially if he uses the viewfinder on the Canon A1200, and with a couple of standard AA's in his pocket he won't have any excuse not to be taking photo's. :)

The S90 is a great little camera, I have the S95 and it never leaves my side.

Agree with all of this, especially about AA batteries... I feel lithium batteries can be a hindrance with compacts, especially as most of them seem to require you to drag along a dedicated charger or dock as well as a mains lead, or you just have no juice.

I found myself in Düsseldorf a few years ago with my trusty Fuji S5500 and the rechargeable AA batteries ran out just as I discovered a family of red squirrels frolicking in a small park near my digs. Popped into nearest newsagent, grabbed some alkalines and got the shots. Legend.

Course, it turned out they were greys whose coat was turning, but meh, I'm no wildlife photographer :D
