Digiscoping

I have been considering Digiscoping with my Canon R5.

Reading so much on the internet one of the downsides needs to be the sharpness of final images

I was wondering with all the new Software that companies like Topaz offers if it is possible to improve on the original by much

Feedback on this would be appreciated - if anyone has a RAW image they would be happy to share with me to experiment with that would also be useful

I have tried a few times , using both DSLR and mirrorless plus I.phones all via the appropriate adaptors . The results to me were all underwhelming .
To do it properly you need an extremely sturdy tripod, capable of taking a counterweight bag for rocks or sand etc , then you need a good quality video head that moves slowly and smoothly . And finally you need a powerful large optic zoom scope ::: think at least a Leica .. . You may then get comparable images to a decent camera and lens .. … you’re probably looking at around 5 to 10 k’s worth of gear to do it properly .

Yeh my ongoing research has suggested what you have said is right - shame I cannot afford one of Canons £12000 lens or whatever they are and will have to make do with my mere 100-500 and x2 extender

Perhaps a bit late to add to this, but for information, here's what I can get with a 1980s Kowa TSN-1 and a Nikon D600...



Given that you need all this to get that far...



...it hardly seems worth the trouble. Of course, other people's mileage may vary.

I have tried digi scoping with an A99 and I could easily tell the difference in sharpness even on its 24mp sensor. Only positive is it was more evenly sharp or rather evenly soft across the frame

Topaz software as good as it is can't polish a turd. It can basically make already good images better.

I too can't afford five figures for lenses. I think canon and in my case Sony are the wrong brands for telelenses.

Nikon has more affordable fast-ish Tele prime options. The 400mm f4.5 PF and 800 f6.3 PF are really amazing. I'm contemplating a move to Nikon.....
