I loved the fact that he is sat there with three assistants, one holding a reflector, one the light (which he shot as a continuous light, without additional flash at times) and one to hold a cable!

Just goes to show you can get great portraits using a simple set up and having people sat on a basic chair.

he had a lot of "vals" (voice activated light stands)

However - he was using flash - you could clearly see the flash go off often - and the pocket wizzard trigger on the camera was a bit of a clue...

Could perhaps offer a "Rankin" day for the senior kids at local schools..... mmmmh

The flash didn't fire on every shot though, did on most but not all.

Not seen and will watch, but have massive issues with the whole Dream School! I would love to teach kids photography at my school. Issue is 27 kids per class and no budget. I would love to get them to shoot lots of stuff, budget is issue, as is the fact that we are so heavily tied to a curriculum that inspiration is left behind making sure you achieve targets.

I am managing to get all my year 10 using equipment (noteably mine) to shoot an image for their ICT coursework.

Lot harder work when you have 27 kids, no assistants and no money. Wonder if Rankin could cope under these conditions?

I'm pretty sure it does, but due to the speed of the flash duration it may be falling between the frames in the video.

could be that.

I want the preset, the images really pop after it's been applied.

Any ideas?

It did help that he could say he had been paid £150k to shoot an ad once, that got the kids attention!

Me To!

However - its a different software - that comes with the pro digital back being used.... if you look you can detect the histogram and curves at the side of the screen....

Rankin is awesome!

oops dazza - you're right! ;-)

I think it's capture one software.

I'm pretty sure I can get somewhere similar, just been playing for an hour or so.

Just need to find one of my external hard drives with some beauty raw files on to test it now :)

Anyone see what the position of the lights where? I did see an elinchrome softbox somewhere, high and left maybe?

Not what I was expecting, seemed more a class in modeling that photography.

The assistant was right there holding it...

There was an Elinchrom box there but I don't think I saw it flash once, it looks as basic as a standard reflector on a flash, to the side and up (he varies it, asking for top/side) and a reflector underneath.

It's a really nice light I like it :)

I'm refering to the kit he is using Dan.

Gotcha mate, right you are :)

And the rest :) the phase one body alone is £6000 odd. Ooooo how I'd love to shoot digital MF :(

One day.....one day.... lol

Used MF digi back just over a grand, body £750, just need a lens. Doable for £2.5k?

I'm sure it was all "Just some stuff" he happened to have lying around. ;)

(Any way with all the multi sponsorship deals the programme probably used, I'm sure it will all become much clearer all the equipment that was supplied for each and every student, when the DVD boxed set series comes out). :naughty:

Good show so far though. Stimulates debate, and "Dat aint no bad ting like" is it?
