Differences between Leica D-Lux x line and Panasonic LXx line?

Sometimes the Leica ones have a slightly different body, like a different grip, also perhaps different JPEG profiles and apart from that I think you sometimes get some free processing software and perhaps a longer warranty. YMMV, don't take this as gospel and check the details and the deal etc.

I read one review some time ago but I've forgotten what the camera was, anyway - the Leica one was significantly more expensive even after you factored in buying the Panasonic version and the software. Personally I wouldn't even consider the Leica variants.

As Alan said, none bar styling, internally the type 109 is the same as the LX100, it may have DNG raw rather than panasonic's raw, not sure on that one but everything else is the same & that grip on the LX100 is damn handy,

Same with the C Lux, that equates to the Panasonic TZ200.

The Leica's are made by Panasonic for Leica, its similar with the Panasonic lenses labelled "Leica" they are made by Panasonic under license from Leica, they aren't made by Leica themselves.

Oh yes, I forgot about that :D but as DNG is a free download and converting the raws over takes not a lot of time I don't think it's worth paying extra for.

I'm normally all for choice and people spending their money how they see fit but why anyone would spend more on what is little more than a badge job for the sake of what's perceived by some as a more prestigious badge does amaze me. I know why people do it, they'd rather own a Leica than a Panasonic, but it still amazes me.
 
In this case it's because I've been recommending the LX series to people at work who currently have bottom of the bottom end DSLRs, p*** poor lenses and no clue how to use them and who don't actually want big cameras. Trouble is that there are very few available as they are now quite old - there are a lot more Leicas around to buy for the same money, but I can't cut through the b******t on the Leica website to work out whether I'm buying a camera or some sort of modern art installation.

They're the same camera with a different badge. If you can get one from either brand at the price they want to pay, you won't be missing out by not getting the other brand.
