Hi can somebody tell me the differences between the standard Nikon 18-55mm
and the Nikon AF-S ED DX 18-70mm F3.5-4-5.6G

Thanks much appreciated :)

I'm a Canon user, but the focal length is one :P

What's the F numbers on the Nikon 18-55?

3.5-5.6, some are VR and some are not, thanks jamie.

thanks Dave that's very useful to me ta.

The 18-70mm is one of the more highly regarded Nikon kit lenses - the new 18-105mm VR is very similar optically IMHO (I've used the 18-55mm, 18-70mm and 18-105mm VR kit lenses).

The 18-70 is a great lens for the price. Plenty sharp enough for most purposes ( up to A3 from a D200) but not the fastest glass available. Not a lot wrong with the 18-55 but not quite as sharp and they distort a bit more at the wide end.

If I hadn't upgraded to FF, I would have kept the 18-70 but since it's a Dx lens (and it was a sale clincher when the D200 went) I didn't need it any more.
