Yes
..from Bolton was on it

I'm just about to watch a recording of it now...I think the phrase is "How NOT to be a wedding photographer..."...lol

Well I've just watched it.

It sounds like the guy was simply a bad amateur who didn't know what he was doing.
Delays of prints, not knowing what to do on the day...asking the couple what shots they wanted, and waiting for instruction, rather than knowing what shots etc and directing the people accordingly.

And when couples do get prints back, they find out they've been printed at Asda. Bad photos, dark, underexposed, out of focus shots too.

It certainly does enforce my long held view that I could never turn my hand to wedding photography.

Barry and I know this chap.....Barry has been on a shoot with him, in fact Mr Porter hosted my first photo site which has disappeared off the face of the earth, I even joined in the fun when he asked his fellow photographers on his photosite that also disappeared, to design a logo, I thoght I did a good job too lol, but he never chose mine ;) From what I can remember, he was always getting a new camera, never satisfied with the one he had and never really got that many good shots. Barry and I were chatting to him one evening last year, it didn't make sense to us that he was showing these wonderful photos on his wedding website when we had never seen evidence of his abilities to that standard...oh well....think his degree was in business management :naughty:

LOL It sure is a small world.

I saw his link on another forum (forgotten it now) Photo Sense I think it is..not sure of the exact URL though.

It seems he's now "Stopped Trading" though, and stopped taking new orders.

Thats the puppy.

I do feel awful picking up on another's foibles. I hate picking faults with other people, I'm too nice like that.....

But as a professional, that's quite an apalling standard of english he's used there.

I agree Marcel, I don't usually say anything but I feel a bit conned by him myself...'nuff said though.....we have took that decision tha knows.... ;)

So this guy is from Cambridgeshire?

Interesting. I'm 99% sure that the photo on his website is Temple Newsam House in Leeds. I know because I did a wedding there myself in September.

So he's either got a very large catchment area, or he never took that picture himself.

[edit] hmm.... his domain name is registered to a Lancashire address...

Damn... missed it! Looks like it was 'interesting' :)

He was supposed to be printing two calendars for me about 220 units in total and he just disappeared. Glad I didn't pay upfront.

Sounds like he wont be missed, where ever he is now

So was this Watchdog episode a sting against just the one individual, or was it just generally covering a number of rogue/unprofessional photogs ?

(Sounds like you were lucky with regard to payment there Kev )

Watchdog asked independent photographic expert, Kevin Wilson, to take a look at Porter's work.

Wilson explained to Watchdog: "It's not very good at all. It's something I'd expect a guest to have taken, actually. The standard of photography isn't professional. You'd have to say, this is pretty much rubbish."
Kevin Wilson the Australian?

would make a good quote if they had asked Arkady..

Cheers for that Pxl8

I saw that and so did Paul, my Video Cameraman on the team - also a trained (Royal Navy) photographer.
Quite simply appalling. I really shudder to think that there are people out there getting paid by unsuspecting punters for work that is so bad it should go straight into the bin.

It just makes it more difficult for the rest of us to appear professional.

Would this happen to be the PhotoSense website that then changed into the PhotoSense greetings cards website that a few of us got caught by with regard to helping to donate that then disappeared of the face of the earth with a total lack of sales or advertising??

Not quite sure. I've not heard of that website.

Although Photo-Sense is quite a popular name (as they stated on the program) as is Neil Porter (apparently theres another NP out there who isn't this bad).

Thats what always worries me about photography, if you don't do a course or if your not intrested then its just a photograph and people who don't do a high stander of work but bull*hit for britain tend to get away with it :bang: selling something that is not of your highest quality makes me shiver.
