I'm down at the Edinburgh Festivals (Fringe, Book Festival and EIF) covering events each day for Getty Images, and I figured I'd make a little diary to keep a note of what I've been doing!

Here goes...

Monday 12th August 2013

The day started with a few hours of waiting around for Prince Philip to arrive at and leave the Royal Society on George Street. I won't bore you with the details but afterwards I popped over to the Book Festival and shot some author portraits. Basically, authors pose for photographers in front of a backdrop after they have done their events. Although this year the backdrop is dark blue, last year all the photographers clubbed together and bought some brown carpet to use for a bit of variety.

After the Book Festival fun, another photographer and I walked across the city to the launch of a contemporary opera called The Garden. Upon arrival we thought that there were only three of us until we were escorted into a room filled with more than ten photographers scattered all over the place, lying on the floor, under benches etc. The opera involved a woman singing about a small bush on her kitchen floor, as far as I could interpret between shutter clicks, costarring with Alan McHugh who is most famous for playing the pantomime dame in Aberdeen every year.

After filing the photos from this event I had a few hours to kill so I rang around a few press offices and managed to sort (very last minute) access to Baby Wants Candy, a show where they improvise a whole musical every night. I can say now that it was absolutely fantastic and I thoroughly recommend it! Pictures to follow tomorrow night...

Adios for now!

Evening, folks. Today has been a bit different; After covering a photocall I went to see one of my favourite comedians, Stewart Lee, who was hilarious as usual, and now I'm sat in Wetherspoon's dining solo before photographing Milton Jones tonight. Oh, the glamour!

Today's photocall involved paint, and an innocent Summerhall staff member - Alex - who was roped in to be painted by "fashion vandal" Ryan the Wheelbarrow. When the photocall started, the staff member was wearing his uniform. At the demands of the photographers, his shirt was removed and sunglasses were donned to make for a more striking picture. Then much to the embarrassment of poor Alex, he was goaded to scream more than ten times for us all to create a more interesting expression. After 30 minutes, the photocall was over, and that was it for the morning!
