DeviantART people?

i had one, no idea what i did with it though...sorry, lol

Yup I got one, cant remember the url right now.....but if I type enough I think I have it in my signature :) erm...think I need a few more words for it to show, really could just click on the bookmark and paste the url, but the involves sitting up and using the mouse :( hope this is enough words to get sig to show!

I don't really use it. I got fed up of submitting photos and getting only 1 or 2 comments. Only been there for like 4 years too. I can submit something on Flickr and get lots of feedback, but after 4 years on DA I barely got anything. A few of my recent shots have attracted more attention, which was nice. At the end of the day I guess I'm just a bit miffed that after 4 years and all my friends getting a "Daily Deviant" award for something I wouldn't mind getting one :( I like to know that I'm going places, that I'm following in my heroes footsteps to some degree. Still, I have you guys .... *tightens noose*

I've found recentley that you have to put a lot in to get a lot out. But I agree, in my opinion I've got some very worthy Daily Deviations but my gallery just isn't...viewed enough to get the word out!

nice galleries so far everyone :D

I remember this convo :P

I am on DA alot and I would of liked a Daily Dev.

In my experience its not what you know but who you know. Ive seen some great work shown off there and some crap work shown off there in Dailys.

Talk is your friend :D

What exactly is Deviantart all about? I've looked there & predominant it appears to be slightly edgy/arty posts & blogs full of angst. What makes it different to other sites?

Some nice galleries there folks, I looked at loads of different sites to upload my pics to before deciding on pbase. I have a flickr site but I don't like the way you browse through it. On pbase I can upload my pics at a reasonable size and they are easy to scroll through. Don't really update often enough togo the whole blog.

is it just me that doesnt like the sound of any website that contains alot of teenagers, angst and has "deviant" in the web address?

sounds to me like a website i wouldnt want to visit

that and the last time i visited the layout was horendous

No it's not just you. I'm old though - what's your excuse?

The average load time of a DA page is 45 seconds which is about 30 seconds longer than my attention span.

agree with all the points above (except perhaps the one about the naked ladies ), it p***es me off that some people use deviant art as a photo album for their holiday snaps etc when the site has "art" in it's url and a deviation is defined as a "polished piece of work". People take great offence when you try to make any kind of criticism. It's also quite buggy, often says I have new messages in my message box when I don't.

Still, I've used it for quite a while now and won't be moving any time soon. Tempted to open a flickr/pbase account now though from the comments I've read here :)

While it can be full of emo's it does have some amazing photographers on there. Browse the architecture and landscape sections.

My most favourite photographer, Chris Weeks, part ran the site back when it first opened, and he commits to it with his stories, and pictures a lot.

That's reason enough for me!

I feel a greater sense of community with DeviantART too, as opposed to Flickr, or other services. But in the end it really does just boil down to personal preference, or in the case of whitewash - ignorance.

ignorant?

care to explain? i was mearly suggesting that the title of the site can create conotations due to its name, ones which really arent to my liking.

ignorant is maybe when you spurn other peoples opinions because they dont match with yours.............

oh and hello grant. hows fettle?

You suggest it contains a lot of teenagers and angst, and aren't willing to actually see what's really on there. Sure it has its fair share of 'abusers' but that's to be expected of any social network is it not?

You're entitled to your opinion, just as I am about it being an ignorant one. You should really check the site out, there's some fantastic talent, inspiration and a real sense of community. My photographs have improved 10 fold through the critisisms I've recieved from fellow photographers on there.

Oh, and Hi.

lol no fighting children!

i have to agree to some extent with whitewash, my initial impressions on my visits where his (not seen) impressions, you did have to dig a little when i used to look to see the better stuff

excellent examples Pete

I have a question for the deviantART people. For some weird reason, when I browse the categories they all work fine apart from photography. If I select the category "All Photography" with showing newest images, it only shows images from February 10th and before. No matter what I do, the newest images are all February 10th. I've tried logging out, deleting cookies and temp files etc. but nothing has worked.

Anyone any ideas?

dA always seems to be in constant development, with new bugs, issues, features arising all the time.

Sucks? Possibly. It's just the price you pay for a free service I suppose.

It ain't free for me, I subscribed hoping it would make the experience more bareable:bang:

I subscribe too, but you were well aware of the benefits you were getting over the free account, were you not? :naughty: "free from bugs and faster loading" wasn't one of them!
