Afternoon all,

When i use up my first roll of film in the Leica i'm planning on getting somewhere (prob Tesco) to develop the negs and scan them on to a disc.

What sort of resolution will i be getting from this process? Will i be able to blow up the image to print on a reasonably sized canvas etc?

Thanks

In a word, no.
These places usually give very low res scans, and even if they're not low res, they will likely not be very good. Your best bet might be to either buy yourself a flatbet (if you plan on doing a lot) or have a look at this thread :).

Typical "supermarket" or "High street" scans are at a low resolution, probaby the equivalent of a 6"x4" print @ 300dpi - call it 1800x1200 (a couple of megapixels) - presumably to attempt to prevent you from just getting a dev and scan job done, and printing your own enlargements.

They're fine for use on here / faecesbook / flickr or the like, but generally, a decent flatbed will serve you better if you tend, like me, to only really print at 10x8" or larger ...
