I have found myself using LR4 almost exclusively in the few weeks since I bought it. But the one thing it doesn't seem to do as well as PE10 or in my CS4 is to make detailed selections. Unless I'm missing a point - am I

:help:

Hi John

I'm still learning LR4 (recent upgrade from 3) - do you mean the automask function when applying localised settings? If so, auto mask confines brush strokes to areas of similar colour so it might be that LR4 isn't able to differentiate the more subtle colour variations as well as PSE10 or CS4?

Hi Adrian

Thanks for helping

I watched a YouTube tutorial a while ago and can't remember how to find it again. It covered selection with emphasis on using the auto mask. At that point I'd only had LR for a matter of days and it was all 'Double Dutch' to me.

However I still suspect PExx & CSxx will be able to select by much finer parameters. But I am still loving using LR but must recognise times when I need to twiddle, tweak or fiddle in another application

I agree but I'm moving to the mind set that if the photo needs lots of adjustments to make it "decent" then I'm doing something wrong at the point of taking the shot!

AdobeTV with Julianne Krost(?) is a great source of info on LR4 - I tend to dip in and out of this and YouTube when trying to sort a specific "issue" liek the other day when I wanted to extend a canvas - easy when you know how but I couldn't see the wood for the trees myself!

I've watched a quite a bit of Adobe TV and this afternoon watched as per link below which gave an in depth into The 'Brush' command and associated options. Taught me quite a bit until I forget what I've learned.

I enjoy PP so I don't mind not getting that more perfect shot.
