Where is it best to position a desk in a room in relation to a window? Infront of the window so that you are looking out? Or at the far end so that the screen is facing the window?

Although if you have a modern LCD monitor the reflection is much reduced compared to the old CRT type monitors. With an LCD you can get away with the window behind the monitor as long as it is offset by a slight angle.

Should also say that I have tried my LCD in several positions in the office - not easy as it has a window at each end of a narrow room, but it finally ended up with it on a side wall, so windows are at 90 degrees with light from both sides and thats where it really does work best ;)

I find that monitor on desk works best:nuts:

if desk faces window, I get very tired eyes squinting into the light
if window behind desk, I get reflections

so I it at right angles to a north facing window

facing wall is neutral coloured (should be 18% grey I know!)

I find that monitor on desk works best:nuts:

with the light emmiting bit towards you yeah? :naughty::lol:

Mines at about a 45 degree angle to a window, since I've got 3 windows in my front room that was about the best compromise I could come up with!

Seems ok to me and doesn't strain my eyes tbh

Cheers folks, looks like I'm going to have to do some rethinking...

mine is angled int he corner at home with window behind me, never had any problems

at work its 90 degrees to the window to my right lol

Mine's at 90 deg to my window, with the window to my left, about 2 feet away (desk is in the corner).

It's also a Dell with that shiney reflective glass like coating, but it never causes me glare or reflection problems.

H&S states that all monitors should placed at 90 degrees to any window, so in other words you are neither looking out of it or have it behind you. HTH

That's a bummer if you have windows on 2 or more sides ;)

mine is at 90 degrees to the window although more my accident than design:)

no 18% gray walls though and i dont the the landlord would aprove:shake:

i dont have a window:(

I wanted as much open space in my room as possible, so I have the monitor with the window behind me. I do have blinds on the windows, and the monitor on a vesa arm, so I can turn it around if I need acuracy.

I agree work with the monitor at 90 degrees or so from the window if you can. If not, look at a blind that can stop most of the light coming in. It may be a good idea to get a blind anyway, to keep the light in your workroom at a reasonable level whilst you are working. I've got a nice metallic venetian blind with little holes in that allow light through even when it's fully down.

I wouldn't worry about the 18% Grey. I've never found it to be a help. Soft muted pastel colours are fine. Besides the pictures stuck on the walls and all the other stuff I've got on them there would hide it anyway
