No
just got a circular through work about this, would have posted in the news section but can't so it here instead :) ):

As you may have seen in the news, Dell are recalling some 4.5 million laptop batteries due to the slim possibility of them exploding and setting themselves on fire. We know that within the Physiology department and at users homes there are Dell laptops in use and we would advise you to please check if your battery is one of the ones to be recalled/replaced.

To do this, please follow the instructions at: http://www.dellbatteryprogram.com/

hahaha! Watched this on the news last night - Laptops exploding in flames all over the place... Who need al-Qaeda?

Imagine the panic had that happened on a plane or even in an airport:eek:

I heard this on radio one yesterday, but they didn't say which models were :suspect:

I have a 6000 lappy

do i wait and see it will burn the house down and make a claim because they should send out letters to owners about the risk

or.......

Turn off the lappy and remove the battery and write the numbers down, only to find out that my extended life battery isn't on the list after all :(

It's not actually the batteries, but the power adaptors. The machines affected date from between 1998 and 2002. According to Dell "The words "DELL," and either "P/N 9364U", "P/N 7832D", or "P/N 4983D" are printed on the back of the adapters."

Mine's fine! :D

*edit*

OK - it's some batteries as well then.....again the wisdom according to Dell:

"Potentially affected batteries were sold with the following models of Dell notebook computers or separately as secondary batteries:
Latitude: D410, D500, D505, D510, D520, D600, D610, D620, D800, D810
Inspiron: 500M, 510M, 600M, 700M, 710M, 6000, 6400, 8500, 8600, 9100, 9200, 9300, 9400, E1505, E1705
Precision: M20, M60, M70, M90
XPS: XPS, XPS Gen2, XPS M170, XPS M1710"

Mines still fine! :D

eh?

It's listed on dells front page as a battery recall and they even show images of the types of batteries affected and go on to say

" Dear Dell Customer,

Dell has identified a potential issue associated with certain batteries sold with Dell Latitude™, Inspiron™, XPS™ and Dell Precision Mobile Workstation™ notebook computers. In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and other regulatory agencies, Dell is voluntarily recalling certain Dell-branded batteries with cells manufactured by Sony and offering free replacements for these batteries. Under rare conditions, it is possible for these batteries to overheat, which could pose a risk of fire."

my battery checked out as being Ok when i entered it's number into the dell checker.

looks like no free house makeover :(

There is also a recall for power adaptors too though.....which is what I found when I did a search on Dell's site yesterday morning.

Thats a worry then because the blurb from dell says to use the laptop on the A/C cord while the battery is being replaced.

Can't win :D

where did i leave that paint chart :D
