OK, so all MOTs have been given a 6 months grace, but what about my MOT due in October 2020?
Will I get an extension on mine because all the available slots are taken up by those late MOTs?

Depends how long the lockdown continues, but there are still garages and dealers carrying out servicing and MOT's. My car's service and MOT are due in September, I don't envisage it being done any later.

MOTs have been extended by 6 months, apparently about 7 days before they are due they are given a new expiry date 6 months later. So if your original expiry date was Oct 2020 it will become Apr 2021.

Won't the extensions have ended before October though?

I'm not sure it'll still apply in October....... I guess it'll be relevant until most things are back to "normal" & our lockdown period is over.

Mine on the Focus is due at the very end of April. I'm not sure actually if my usual place I use is open at the moment - I intend to get it done fairly soon & certainly before October. I have tax, insurance, MOT on the weekend car right on Sept/Oct so an April MOT on the daily car spaces things out nicely.

you still have to keep it roadworthy though ,think my front tyres need replacing soon even though I'm doing 4 weeks to the gallon

my bike MOT is in a few weeks, I might see if Phil wants to do it or take the 6 months

Best to check the gov.uk website for the status of your vehicle's MOT
My van was due 19th April, about a week ago was amended to 19th October

apparently system will update about 7 days before it is due.

Got two new front tyres today better safe than sorry

You could book now, ask for your MOT to start on the earliest date you can book on your MOT paper, usually the one that says

To preserve the anniversary of the expiry date, the earliest you can present your vehicle for test is 00.00.2020 just book your car in for the any day on or after that date on your MOT certification. Book now for the future, if you and the garage boss get on well with each other, you could just explain that you're worried a lot of people will take up the slots, so you figure to book now to secure your slot for October.

There are still plenty of garages, working and carrying out MOT's.
Someone asked about MOT's on our local Facebook group yesterday, and people posted up more than 20 garages within about 5 miles or so, still operating, some of which are just MOT centres.
