Ive tried a few single malt whiskies over the years but lately I thought Id try brandy for a change. Seem to be a bit hit and miss. I tried a Sainsburys brand XO cognac, that was pretty good. Bought a Courvoisier VSOP in the offers pre crimbo and found it rough as a badgers backside.
So what brandy do regular suppers of said, recommend?

In return I'll mention some readily available malts that float my boat:
Highland Park 12
Glenfiddich solera 15 yo
Old Pulteney 12
Talisker 10

I intend to treat myself to either a Talisker or Highland park 18yo at some point.

I can't recommend a brandy to you but on the basis of your list of preferred malts I suggest you seek out the single malt called 'an cnoc'. It is a beauty.
 
Remy Martin rocks my boat.

Oh, and on the single malts: Balvenie, Dalwhinne and, my favourite, Oban. Am also drinking a Jura at the moment and would go as far as a Talisker, but have to be in the mood.

I like the Remy Martin VSOP (in a black and red box from memory, around £30). Very nice.
 
I usually have Remy Martin XO. I have two bottles of it at home at the moment. Lovely. :love:

If you're feeling really flush, don't bother with brandy; treat yourself to a single cask 16 year old Glendronach that has been matured in Oloroso Sherry Butts!

There's a bottle on fleabay at the moment at £125 and it's probably worth that much if Hennessy's top "Paradis" cognac sells for over twice that price! [No I'm not the seller!!]

Admittedly I only paid about half that a couple of years ago, roughly the price of a Highland Park 18 which is why I mention it, but it's the most complex, rich malt whisky I've ever sampled and on first taste in Milroy's Soho shop, I exclaimed "it's grape not grain!!"

FWIW, we had opened a bottle that my mate had just purchased - and I immediately bought one ... and the shop manager bought one too!

I'll keep my eye open for Remy Martin on offer then I think, cheers chaps.

Ken: yes tried all those 3 whiskies, in fact I think I have a dram left of dalwhinnie in a bottle at home.

Jonathan: Never seen Glendronach anywhere but thanks for the tip.
 
Remy Martin Louis XIII or Hine Antique although, not much change from £1000 for the Hine and the Remy is about £1400 lol

Both of them are like the nectar of the gods though.

I am partial to a ST-Remy, I dont pay the Earth for a bottle though as it all tastes the same after the first pint anyway :nuts:
 
Picked up a three barrels 15yo XO for £23 yesterday(Asda), first couple of glasses a definite improvement over the courvoisier vsop.

To the Laphroiag fan(s), have you tried Caol Ila? Picked up one recently absolutely gorgeous stuff. The sort that you can still taste 2 days later sort of thing. In a nice way
 
My fave is Martell vsop, seems quite smooth and on the sweeter side.
 
Can't help with the brandies but if you like the Glenfiddich you may like

Glenlivet Nadurra

though my current favourites are

Ardbeg Corryvreckan
Ardbeg Uigeadail, and
Bruichladdich Octomore

Three Barrels is the preferred tipple of my other half and friends across the road, while another friend only drinks Hennessy but I can't remember which one it is. Got to say my pet gripe in pubs is the fact that they only sell the "better" brands such as Courvoisier on optic and a large one can be eye-wateringly expensive!

Definite Uigeadail convert here - astonishingly complex dram. Love it
