OK making the move away from canon speedlights for portraits indoors. I will be picking up two sets of D-lite 4's today from our friend Stuart at digital depot.

What I want to know is there anyone using third party modifiers with Elinchrom? And if so are they any good compared to the real thing??:D

I am after a decent size octa, (8ft ceilings), a strip softbox and maybe a decent beauty dish.. the kit comes with 4 66cm squared soft boxes so these will make do for anything else I may need..

Any help or advice would be appreciated..:)

Might be worth checking out ebay, there seem to be lots of third party stuff out there, and I can't imagine you can go too far wrong with something like a beauty dish.
Theses guys HERE do dirt cheap softboxes, no idea what they're like but at that price worth trying one maybe.

If you're setting up and breaking down on a regular basis, then the Elinchrom Rotulx series are worth it IMHO. The 66cm square ones you're getting will become a pain if you're in a hurry! :)

Decent size octa and 8 foot ceilings really dont go together.

My 7 foot modifiers are slightly too big in my 10-11 foot ceilings to get a decent shadow under the chin.

I would make do with what you have (the softboxes) until you are more experienced. Sounds a bit like 'eat your greens', but is very true.

Agreed. If you're thinking in terms of groups, a strip softbox, used horizontally, is a very good compromise when working with a low ceiling. Lencarta have one that can be supplied with an Elinchrom fitting (as well as with loads of other fittings)

You ain't wrong, I got really peed off with these soft boxes earlier they are a pain to put together!! The bessel ones look a bit too cheap in my honest opinion and just as awkward too!

Maybe I should of wrote reasonable size octa rather than decent? Looking more in the 4-5ft region. And they have to be foldaway too I'm too used to the easyboxes!

HHMMMM your soft boxes and octa's look very promising.. perfectly priced and Eli fit too. Do you have any links to independent reviews??
