Dean Collins videos

I've been picking up Dean Collins lighting videos whenever I come across them. They're somewhat old-fashioned but he really knew what he was doing with light, whether for product shots or portraiture. The video of how he created an image of a black Porsche is particularly striking. Frank Doorhof, Tony Corbell and others regard him as the master.

I've recently discovered that there's a fair amount of material on YouTube.. highly recommended.

And if you're not interested in lighting (why are you here?) then the videos are worth viewing for the facial hair alone.

I've watched all the Collins vids I've found - he was excellent and his teaching still stands up compared to anyone today.

Boo, I'm glad I saw them when I did. I think Software Cinema is his old business and belongs to his widow but I could be mistaken. Back to haunting eBay...

A shame they're no longer free to watch, but right and proper that they've been taken down, as they're ripped from still currently purchasable DVD's.

However, worth buying in my option, some very relevant tips, despite the age of them, light and physics hasn't changed ;-)

Yes, absolutely right that they were taken down.
The copies on YouTube were pirated.

Yes, those are on Software Cinema's channel, so I would presume that they're legal.

Tony Corbell can be fleetingly seen in some of those videos, assisting Dean!

I watched these years ago and they are excellent. As you say, also great to nostalgically witness a window on a time fashion forgot.
