Hi all

My iPad (3 i think) screen has started getting dead spots. One in the top left where you would press "back" arrow in a browser. Also one where the backspace key is on the virtual keyboard. I have to keep flipping from landscape to portrait, press the desired button then go back to landscape again. Getting tedious now. I thought it might be the screen protector i have on it so I took it off but fault still present. Has anyone else had this fault and did they find a cure? Im thinking i'll need the ipad replaced basically but cant imagine Apple doing that gratis. Not sure how long Ive had the pad but 2 years or less I imagine.

Thanks.

Press the home button and the power button together until the apple logo appears.

Cheers Bob, iPad is, er, not with me at present, I'll try it when I get ho later

Will do, will need to to know what to do next if it doesn't.

This process with re-set your iPad back to factory settings, so like it was when you turned it on for the first time

Unless you have your data fully backed up somewhere you will loose it
No it doesn't and No it won't. It's like rebooting your computer. No data will be lost. Make sure you close any open apps, as any unsaved data will be lost, but nothing else.
A full factory re-set is done from the settings menu.

The way you have told the OP to do it will erase the iPad and re-set it to factory settings

Is there a chance pictures will be lost? Also my internet connection wi-fi passwords etc? God knows what they are now. I'll have to have a google

I have had to do a hard reset a few times and never lost anything.

I even kept my home tabs on Safari!

Ok tried it. Apple logo appeared, screen went black then lock screen appeared. Went back in , all apps I had open were still running, wouldn't they have closed? Dead spots still present. :-(

Yes it is normal. It will reinstate where you left it.

I would just take it to apple. As you say it is less than two years old, it should work.

Ps. Make a backup before you go as they will likely just swap it over.

I'll have to see if I can find a receipt. Still got the original box I know.

ps. how do I make a back up?

Thanks

Im still on IOS 6 on the iPad and my home pc wont connect to my router to enable me to ensure I have the latest iTunes. This is gonna be 'fun' I know it. About time I sorted the PC connection I suppose but not used it really since I got the iPad. Gawd knows whats gone wrong. My wireless devices access the internet ok through the router just the PC wont. Cant even access the setup page for the router by typing in the IP address.
But I digress

You can back up and restore without itunes. As long as your ipad can connect to the internet, use iCloud for back up and restore.

I wonder if it will restore an IOS 6 backup on the cloud to a fresh iPad with IOS 7 on?

Noticed last night that the dead spot is actually a dead strip about 1" wide down the narrow edge of one side.

Dig out my receipt, backup and arrange an apppointment with an apple genius needed I think. Nearest store is bleedin sarfhampton though. Blast.

You don't need a receipt. Just backup and get to a store. Appointment is wise as they'll be busy for obvious reasons.
