weekly De88ie 52's 2017 Week 18 Large

Hi Debbie,

Structure - You've caught that really well, crisp against the blurred background. Did you consider spraying it lightly with a mistor (or whatever they are called) to give it the appearance of dew?
Never thought of spraying it, good tip, thank you.

Routine - You've got me trying to guess the car. VAG group perhaps? Works for the theme. It's a skoda Fabia.

Numbers - Very evocative and a different take on a memorial. 14 of the children were below the age they could be at work these days, the two 9 years olds from the same family - twins maybe. Very sad.

Power - I would have liked to see a richer colour in the sky. Perhaps a different time of the day (but then you just know clouds will get in the way...) Wil take some more next time we go to Whitby and keep our fingers crossed for better weather.

Above - You've got a beach and castle local to you? Grrr ;)
Another well taken night shot. I like the range of tones you can get with these. We go to a caravan in Scarborough quite a lot throughout the summer.

Evolve - I bet it was 'fun' getting those two lined up, how often did the original beer token do a runner? A lot.
Good idea for the theme, really shows off the difference between them.

Hold - Horned shoe territory here perhaps but well caught. I might have been tempted to go with a slower shutter, but then there may have been too much motion blur, and it's a one time shot, so going fast is the safest way. Definitely daren't risk a slower shutter, I'm sure i would have missed all the riders going past.

Smoke - Interesting ghostly feel to that one, even the jar (which is sharp) feels ghostly. Have you applied edge enhancement maybe? If not, what processing was it? None specific, i just clicked enhance on my mac photo option.

Good catch-up there (y)

Thankyou so much Tim for taking the time to comment on all of the photos, very helpful and very much appreciated.

Thankyou everyone for all the kind comments. Have missed the fun and encouragement of the forum. Glad to be back.

Well done on the catch up, very impressive!

Stand out ones for me are; Structure - the web stands out beautifully from the background. Reshoot of Attractive - lovely focus on the ducklings and Vivid with the bright blues for the bluebells. As much as I love bluebells I have yet to get a shot of them that I have liked, I somehow struggle but yours has come out lovely.

Thanks Steve. The bluebell shot was taken just before sunset, it lent a light to the bluebells that really made them stand out.

Great catch-up! A few shots stand out for me: the great and very sharp shot of the ducklings, the evolution of the pound coin and the cycle race.

Great composition and great lighting! Lots of details in the hands and nice DoF. I like the B&W conversion, very suitable for that picture!

As has been said, lovely light and a nice soft feel to the photo, perfect for that shot.

Hi Debbie :waves: Somehow I've missed your thread up until now so I've looked through it all and picked out my favourites to date.

You kicked off with a great song title - great idea :) I really like Hairy, with that lovely kitten face and clear blue eyes, and the reflected letters for Whole and the web for Structure are both excellent ideas and well captured. The night shots for Dark and Power work well, with Power being my favourite with the inclusion of the beach and reflections, the flowers are ideal for Vivid with that strong blue colour, and Large is another smashing idea, well composed and perfect for B&W.

Don't give up! You're not far behind at all.
