So Art kicks off the 2nd part of this years 52.

It seemed a pretty easy theme compared to the last few weeks by it didn't quite work out as I had hoped. I had a clear idea from the beginning but the model didn't want to play ball.

As always please feel free to be as harsh as you want. All commenst will be taken on board

A cracking series of images Darren, I would like to see them larger though. I know forum posting rules say 800 on the long side, so would it be possible to reduce the size of your border to bring the images up a bit more? I do like your thinking behind this, good idea  Iain

:D... an excellent take on the theme Darren, I really like it... she certainly looks like she had fun.

Brilliant idea Darren

This is a great start to part2.
I love the vibrant colours and the candid feel of the first 2 works really well. The fact that she's not looking at the camera just adds to the feel of it.

Normally I'm not a fan of busy backgrounds, but again in this one it just adds to the atmosphere and quite simply it just works

No.3 does feel a little out of place though. I understand the story behind it, but maybe you could have caught her showing off her mucky hands at the table - it would have kept a bit more consistency to the shots.

Awww - absolutely lovely! Ideally I would like the lighting of the third shot to be the same as the other two (I like the change in pose), but I know what it is like trying to photograph kids - you have done really well with this and it is one to treasure.

... and a cracking start to the second half, Darren

I garee it would be great to see them larger. I think the 3 shots work really well as they are and I can imagine the 4th shot would have been a quick trip to the bathroom!

My only suggestion would be to have got more on her eye level for the first two and perhaps zoom in just a little, but no too much, because the background gives context.

A gorgeous set of shots of a gorageou model. :)

Maybe this doesn't shout Relaxation but they looked very relaxed to me.

I decided to convert it to B&W as the colour version really didn't do anything for me.

Its not my greatest photography but I blame the weather on that one as it was windy and raining at the time.

As always feel free to comment and give advice

Gorgeous - do you think they managed to disentangle themselves? :D

I like the idea behind Art and my only improvement would be to take away some of the border and have the triptych in landscape rather than portrait.

As for Relaxation, they certainly look comfortable and chilled out :D

I can see 6 tails :D

I can see 6 tails :D

I did a count and came up with the same - but I can't quite reconcile the number of tails with the number of heads and bodies
The one on the right looks confused about whose tail he's holding too, so it's obviously not just me.

I really like this Darren. After a crappy day it's put a smile on my face, so thank you, it's made me relax :)

I think the choice of B&W is perfect. I can't see colour adding much because to me, this is all about shape and form.
And I honestly don't have any advice for you either. You say it's not your greatest photograph, but I really love it just the way it is  My only tiny niggle is the one tail being chopped off on the right . . . but I think if you;d made it a wider shot you would have spoilt the overall composition.

They really do look relaxed... and it works very nicely in mono.

Thank you for all the comments, the colour version looked pretty poor so converting it to B&W saved the picture.

As far as I can remember there was 6 in total

There either very relaxed or cold! Its nice image and I agree that a convert to geryscale is a good idea so the grass isn't distracting. Would like to see the end of the tail of the end one.

Had this idea pretty much as soon as it was drawn. Me and my wife have been studying the baby names book to some up with something.

I think the blur might be a bit harsh

I take it that congratulations are in order then?

:) Congrats to both you and Mrs DC2Z.

And I think that this is a good take on the theme and obviously one with some personal meaning.
For me you're spot on about the blur though. The edges are a little too straight and harsh. It might have worked better if you could have managed it through the DoF in the shot rather than in PP.

Thank you very much, our new addition will be with us beginning of October all being well.

For some reason I couldn't quite get the DOF quite right so had to resort to doing it in PP.

This works well but agree that the blur isn't quite right. I think if you feather the selection (experiment with the amount) it would help a lot.

I like this interpretation of the theme as it has special meaning to you. There is something odd about the oof bits though. The words in bold are a bit distracting.

Hope all goes well in October.

It's a special interpretation for you, I have to agree that the sharp edge is too clearly defined... I'd suggested trying with the feather also.

Congrats to you both

I was really lacking inspiration this week (not just for the 52)

Sorry is a poor image but fingers crossed I get my umph back this week.

Hi Darren - catch up time for me. :)

Relaxation: Definitely the sort of shot that puts a smile on my face. I think I'd have cloned out the 'spare' tail but other than that I think you got it just right in what sounds like difficult conditions. Mono was an excellent choice! :)

Grace: First of all - congratultions and I hope all goes well in October. We're expecting a new grandchild in a couple of weeks so I share your excitement. :) I can't add anything to the earlier comments - it's a good take on the theme, and I can't resist trying to read the blurry text too! :D

Endings: I sympathise over the lack of motivation - my thread's full of 'lost mojo' shots! I can see the rationale although it didn't immediately scream 'Endings' for me. As an image it works well - it's well balanced with a good mix of colours. The only very, very small niggle is the pencils aren't quite straight within the frame. Perhaps placing them diagonally within the frame would have worked - not sure. :)

Jean

hee hee I would argue those are beginnings
t'other end of the pencil would be endings

nicely executed though!

Definitely beginnings and not endings ;)

Not too sure about the DoF used, from this angle I think I'd like to see all the pencils sharp in the frame. Also needs a small ccw rotation. The colours that you have are quite nice but I'd like more colour :)

Hope electric inspires you.

I like "Grace" Darren both as an image and as a name, the blur is a tad harsh on the edges, did you refine the edge of the mask?

Endings/Beginnings either it is a nice simple well taken shot, it needs a very slight straighten but i really like the grey card its taken on, often this kind of shot is taken on white but the grey gives it a bet feel for me.

Darren, I know what you mean... it's tough at the mo, seems to be all over. Anyway, that shot works, I got the link as soon as I saw the image... a slight straighten will sort it nicely.

No idea if this worked as a photo, but I'm struggling at the moment.

Nice idea Darren, colour version works for me and certainly made me wince when I saw it. So for desired effect a  Needs a counter clockwise rotation I think, but other than that a good effort.

Nice tiles by the way :)

Hope the camera was on a tripod Darren, wouldnt fancy holding camera and fork with one hand each!!!

Good idea and well executed.

I prefer the colour Electic image. Metal + electricity + a water droplet .. you were asking for trouble!

Needs a little straightening but I like the colours and composition.

It reminds me of the time my OH was looking for the earth with a screwdriver...a loud bang and he called "I've found it!" Took about an inch off the end of the screwdriver :lol:

Sorry I've been away for a while but had many things to sort out.

I know the above images are pretty weak but I really need to catch up and for the 1st time in ages I actually enjoyed taking the photos even if they aren't the best.

It also gave me the chance to try out my new Panasonic Luxiz FZ45 which I now have as I had to sell my Nikon D90 due to financial problems due to our new family member due in the next few weeks.

Please feel free to leave any comments no matter how harsh.

Great catch up Darren.

Your Project shot made me chuckle - typical road worker having a tea break!! :D

Well done for catching up (says the man who didn't bother :)).

Transform needs a little more space around it, but otherwise isn't bad.

Mobile isn't the most inspiring of shots.

Surfaces looks blurred in places and hurts my eyes :) Is it a cylinder? In which case a smaller aperture to keep it all sharp might help.

I like light. You've got the foreboding look just right

Project is nicely set up, but I feel you've missed the focus point as it seems sharpest on the skip or portaloo and I feel it's the man and his tea that should be the focus.
