OK I've decided to do a 52. This is all new to me and I hope I'm posting in the right section.
Anyone reading this should look forward to the most basic interpretation of the weekly subject matter. I hope I don't bore you all too much.

Anyone wishing to comment on any of my attempts feel free to give me both barrels that way I'll try harder the next time. Avante.

Aha, I see I will have competition in the boring stakes :D

Best of luck

Cheers Squawk...I think

Right then I'm not going to saddle myself with personal rules or anything but if I'm not happy with an image I'm going to allow myself to change it up until friday night, I get saturday off ;)

After some heavy snow yesterday I popped round to my mum & dads and 'curved' must have been ingrained somewhere as I noticed this-

it's part of a hanging basket that must have been there for years and is something I'd never really noticed.

I may change it as I had something else planned but then again I quite like it so we'll see.
Comments good or otherwise are very welcome

Nice idea, I would maybe have tried to get the light in the wings maybe, but as it stands it's almost abstract in the starkness of it - nice touch leaving the deep blue of the snow in place (leastways I hope it's snow!)

Arthur

interesting interpretation
nice curveS in the butterfly
and I like the light behind

thats a great start!! high standard to keep up!! :P

Thx Arthur, yes it is snow  I tried a lower shot but it's bolted on to a wooden ballestrad so not easy fitting a 40d and 10-22 in there. I did manage to get the light behind the butterfly but the top swirl in the wing moved into shadow, it's in my gallery if you want to see it.

Cheers Mike, there's also the curveD wings and antennae ;)

Thx Pete, I hope I can up the standard but I'm sure there will be some headbanging in the next 51 weeks lol

Nice shot and well spotted Davie
I actually really like the lighting and the silhouetting of the butterfly - there's a nice glow coming off the garden lamp in the distance too.

Not too sure about the blue glow in the snow though. It's a completely personal thing, but I'd prefer to see it closer to white.

Thx Sarah, not sure I'd be capable of making the snow white but I have tried cloning it out and didn't like it as much so left as is.

I like it - blue snow & all! If the light could have been to one side of the frame it would have been even better IMO, but this might not have been possible depending on background & options for where you stood!

Thx Phil, it MAY have been possible but the second hand value of my camera and lens would probably have taken a sharp drop

Thanks Sue, it was a spur of the moment thing. I was planning something else but being lazy I'll probably just leave it alone now ;)

I like this a lot and blue snow looks great to me. Far better than the yellow variety

I scrolled down to this and immediately went "Ooooo!" in delight. I like the blue flecks on the butterfly which give it some life and whilst I don't know if butterflies are attracted to lights, I'd like to believe they are for the purposes of completing the image (ok maybe it's a moth :)).

Great start

I really like it, the blue flecks work, and took me a moment to work out. Nicely done, good curves.

Thanks for commenting  I'm glad you like it.

I'm glad now I got an image I was fairly happy with as work this week has been busier than expected and I'm working all day tomorrow so the other shot I'd been thinking of doing would have been difficult to fit in. Cheers anyhoo :)

Better start to things than i made :)
The blue certainly add's to the image, and i think u got Curves pretty much nailed!
I rather like it :)

Very nice. Personally I would prefer to have the actual light and its post out of the shot but I realise this probably wasn't possible.

Just for you Tracer, though it's very abstract

Thx for the comments guys, I'm really looking forward to the next theme now.

Nice image and very well exposed considering, the direct light has been handled well.

I like that :) Its 'different' and worth a look or two :) Almost two images in one - the butterfly and the light and snow! Yep works for me :)

Another to fall at the first hurdle... pick your feet up man!

I'll have you know it was the second hurdle

Sorry guys, just been too busy with a few bumps in the road. I hope to get back into it soon :runaway:
