That relaxation shot is quite beautiful. I've never tried landscape shots, but there are some gorgeous ones popping up in this year's 52 so I really must give it a go.

I love the sky and the reflection on the water - and although the setting looks quite industrial there's something very relaxing about the overall scene. A sense of it all shutting down for the night.

Do you have a link to a larger version of electric?
Looks an interesting shot, but I'm finding it hard to see much detail at this size.

Hi Sarah, I never really did landscapes then i got my new lens which enabled to be more sharp so had a dabble.

The relaxtion is BP and the Docks (alexandra docks i think) on Hedon Road near Hull, its definatly Industrial but i liked it as it was a peacefull location. Its my Mountain bike trail, Plus moments before P&O ferry reversed out of the docks.

I was posting these from my iphone, which some times is hard work. lol

Relaxation: That's a beautiful sunset and for me it certainly fits the theme. :)

At first I thought it could do with a slight crop on the right, but looking at the larger version I think you got it right! ;) :)

Electric: Again, fits the theme beautifully. I think it would also make a good mono, especially with the added noise.

Well done on starting to catch up - it's really hard once you get behind.

catching up is hard work i must say

Mono version for me David, looks gritty and timeless. Good image!! :)

Well here is my rushed week 34 Surfaces, I was out with the little lad at a scary 8am on a sunday morning. :( (no lay in for me lol)

#1 is my preference David, the more natural surfaces of the pebbles are more appealling on the eye. Perhaps a more cropped version would work better, picking out one of the pebbles as a focal point for the image? I find my eyes wandering around the image, not able to settle on one particular area. Iain

Electric: Thank you for the mono version - I like it very much indeed.

Surfaces: Good light is your reward for going out so early on a Sunday morning. :D

#1 Pebbles are always fascinating, I think, and I can see a subtle pattern in this - a loosly-formed cross of larger pebbles with the crossing point just below the smooth grey one. I probably need to get out more, but it adds to the interest in your photo. :D

#2 I agree with your comment on the light in this one. There's a good range of colours and textures and given the theme, I think it works well.

Jean

Pebble shot for me too.
I quite like the fact that they all seem to be uniformly in focus - like Jean said it makes me want to find my own patterns and shapes in there.
I think this makes a very strong abstract as it is, but I'd also quite like to see a B&W version to make it more about the shapes and contrasts rather than the colours.

I can see what you liked about the light in the second one - some lovely tones there, but it's just not as appealing as the first one.

p.s. Mono electric for me too

I like both of your surfaces shots. Maybe I slightly prefer the pebbles. Yes, the lighting is good and I really like the colours in the pebbles. On the other one, I would clone out the twig at top right. I find it distracting.

I'm another one who prefers the mono electric.

Ok will have a play with the crop and see what would work best with a set focal point.

I have to agree now mentioned theres a cross in there there.

I gotta say the pebbles shot is strong, imo ;)
why not pick a out a particular pebble and photography the surface of it?
Thank you, i would have go back to the beech and chances are the tide has been and changed. but certainly an option for me, as i only live 10mins up the road.

Pebble shot for me too.

Hi Sarah, i have added a B&W version, i wasn't expecting much from the conversion but i quite like it. I am agree-ing i am now making patterns :)

Jenny

I never actually noticed the twig lol,

The Mono Electric has now taken its place in my 52

Mono pebbles is the version to go with. At the moment I think it's a little too dark though and just needs a lightening of the highlights and midtones.

 Thank you for posting the mono up David.

^^^ Agree with this totally. I think a run over with the dodge tool set at about 50% for highlights and maybe 20-30%ish for midtones would give it a real lift.

I actually prefer the second surfaces shot to the pebbles - I think it would have more impact cropped in.

Phil

aww Phil you thrown a spanner in lol. I will have a mess with it in photoshop

Week 35 - Light

Description:
While i was out practicing some dusk/night work and saw this. it caught my eye when they actually switched the lights on. I took a good old few and finally decided this would fit well, hopefully.

I like that David, the colours work well together, I like the movement in the vapour from the cooling tower too. Maybe just crop a wee bit off the bottom to lose some of the black space but other than that  Iain

Thanks Iain i will crop a little bit off and see how it looks. will do that tomorrow as the peroni's are going down a treat lol.

Surfaces - your adjusted version is great and the cropped version of Light too.

I'm going to have to disagree and say I prefer it with the black bottom :) I think it balances the image more. And yes it's probably because I prefer a good 3:2 or 1:1 image rather than a random crop ;)

Exposure is very nice and the sky acts as a great backdrop. I like this

Ok thank you, Im still unsure with the crop of the "Light"

I really like your light picture. The colours stand out well and it is an interesting subject. the crop has improved it

Thank you

When i compared the two light pics i am still swaying with the more black, lol.

I prefer your 1st 'light' image it feel more balanced to me. Great sky colour.

That's a lovely shot David, the cropped version is much better. Nice warming colours too, I wonder if slipping an ND filter on and getting the chimney stack smoke drawn out a bit would look good.

Thanks Chris. That night i only took one lens, camera and my tripod, so didn't have any other kit to nabble with lol. but yes that would certainly give it some more depth on the steam cloud.

I prefer your 1st 'light' image it feel more balanced to me. Great sky colour.

I am getting a mixed view of my light shot. lol unsure now.

thanks all

I prefer the light pic before the crop

#2 just looks a bit unbalanced to my eyes

#1 is spot on though - great depth to it

The crop of light is an improvement. I also like the bursts of light across the image.

You adjusted version of surfaces is great, i'm a noob and so my terminology maybe wrong, but I like the improved contrast.

I vote for the original version, too David. The dark foreground adds another, contrasting, dimension to the sky and the lights. Like, Jenny, I think the starbursts on the lights are a bonus, as is the flare on the stack on the right.

It's very atmospheric and a good take on the theme.

Jean

 I'm undecided about the crops too.
The first one does feel more balanced, but just too much black. The second one is more pleasing in terms of giving the buildings more prominence, but the horizon line feels a little too low . . . can't quite decide!

Whichever way it's cropped, it's still a good shot though. I love the contrast of the orange against the blue sky. The starbursts are a lovely touch and there are some really strong architectural shapes in silhouette. I particularly like the chimney standing out against that plume of smoke
