i would firstly just like to say hello to everyone as this is the first time i have used this site. having recently got back into photography after a gap of quite a few years i took the plunge and bought a nikon d300 which im still getting to grips with. i have the 18-200 kit lens that the camera comes with and i am looking for some advice on another lens, i have looked a sigma 150-500 and nikon 80-400 and also considering a sigma 120-400. in a ideal i would buy nikon lenses but the cost can be excessive any advice would be most welcome thanks.

Hi Dave, I can only speak for one of the lenses you mention which is the 120-400 as I have this, I was going to sell this on the forums but have decided I will probably keep it as I am impressed with the IQ now I have had a proper play with it...some pics here showing how good I think it is http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=117535
Also I can recommend the Nikon 80-200 which can be picked up for around £500 second hand, the newer 70-200 would be most peoples choice but at around £1400 is a bit of a steep expense for a first lens!
Welcome to the forums it is a great place to learn from and there really is a great bunch of folks on here always willing to give advice so don't be afraid to ask lots of questions (but make use of the search too as there is a fair chance you will find answers from other people that have been in the same place as you in the past!!!)
