Dating scans in metadata

i am going through a pile of scans, and wondered what metadata field i should use for entering the date of the original picture?

So many fields....

There's exif tags for both original date of photo and digitised date. I'd set those personally. They are tags 0x9003 and 0x9004 in EXIF data (see: http://www.sno.phy.queensu.ca/~phil/exiftool/TagNames/EXIF.html)

Thanks for that bit of info. It allowed me to find an article on adobe describing exactly what i need to do in Lightroom.

Change the photo capture time
