Date stamps on DV

I have just upgraded to Lightroom 4 and thought I would transfer all my home movie clips to it too, now that it can manage video.

All my recent home movies are taken using MPEG-4 cameras and so the clips are easy to organise with LR4.

I am having some trouble with the files that I originally filmed with a DV tape camcorder.

Until now I have been using iDive, which I used to import 12 DV tapes going back many years, it created 1,200 compressed clips and somehow uses the time stamp from the DV to arrange them in order and allow you to search by capture date.

I find the software a bit fiddly to use and would prefer to use Lightroom so I imported all the compressed video footage that iDive created into LR.

The problem is that LR organises the footage by the date the file was created (when iDive imported the movie) rather than when the video was recorded.

Any bright ideas how I can change the file creation date to the capture date? I'm not even sure how the capture date is embedded in the file as there is no way to display it on the finder in my Mac.

Thanks, in advance, for any suggestions.

Any idea?

Haven't a clue, other than renaming files to include the date you want at the start of the filename and then sorting by filename. A bit of a task with that many clips. But if the capture date was shed by iDive during the conversion process, it's going to be a long and tedious task whichever way you do it.

Do the iDive conversions have any advantage over going back to the original source material and importing to Lightroom afresh?

Probably not, can LR import from DV and keep the time stamp?

Don't know, I haven't even tried to import any of my video clips into LR4 yet. If the file type is supported, I can't see Lightroom not importing available metadata.

It doesn't look like you can import DV tapes into Lightroom 4. Does anybody know what the best way to import DV tapes into a series of MP4 files with the correct dates in the EXIF data using a Mac? Maybe I'll start again...
