Anyone know how to get the date and time printed on a picture from a D90.

I'm doing work collecting data as a domestic energy assessor and the contracter needs the date and time on the pictures. I've told him to go into the exif but he insists it needs to be part of the picture.

I've went into the Nikon site but no luck.

Hi higgeh.
Thanks but I want it on the digital image, not a printed image.

Thanks again

The photos aren't allowed to be manipulated.

It's not possible without some form of manipulation, I guess the question is whether they are happy with it being in camera or not.
I believe that you can do an image overlay in camera, so could prep a date image to use, but you would have to change it each day and of course this wouldn't deal with the time aspect...

Buy yourself a cheap compact that does it as standard from the menu system and use that. It is what 99% of others would be using.

Or do as has been suggested and drop it on using an action. You are not altering the content of the image as far as the relevant information is concerned - you are no more manipulating it than the compact camera is by stamping the date and time.

Thanks folks.
Siblingchris: The date and time has to be printed on the pictures and there are arounf 15 pictures per house. Sometimes ten houses a day and they are sent by email. It wouldn't be practical to photoshop the time and date on each and every picture.
Everyone does use a compact camera but they run into all sorts of problems like focus and lighting (in attics). I have seen some downloads on the net that I might try.

Thanks again everyone for your input

The information you are looking for can be found on pages 152 & 155 of the 'Nikon D90 owners manual'

Thanks visagephoto.
I opened the picture, pressed OK, but tdidn't see any print options. I wonder if it is a firmware thing. At least I know it can be done.

Cheers!

Nope. That is if you want to print one picture with the date and time, not if you want to have a digital picture with the date and time. I found a piece of software; timetophoto.
Gives a free 30 day trial. May be better ones out there.

Cheers

Download View NX2 if you do not already have it, free from the Nikon site.

When you select the photos and then select print tick the box marked Print Information.

Then select the Settings box next to it.

Under the Date/Time Shot tab decide where you want the info to be printed.

Under the Metadata tab decide what, if any, exif & metadata you want printed below the picture (by default it is all printed so you may need to untick everything).

Under the Header/Footer tab decide if you want any extra info - you will also need to untick the Page Number box if you do not want this.

Thanks for that Suvv.

Hope it helped. View NX2 is a great, if quirky, program with lots of features. You can also print the date & time with Nikon Capture NX2 but that costs a bit more :D
