Week #1 - My Area

From close by, Fort Langley (could loosely be considered "my area"...)

Jan 09-23-2.jpg

If this was in black and white it would look like one of those atmospheric pictures taken of Germany in the second world war.

Doen well to find a gap in the trees for us to see the church through. It all works well!

Good start, maybe a bit off the bottom for me as I don’t think the reflection is that important to the image.

Nice one Bill :)

Was going to say could do with a crop but then saw those tree reflections. Great moody shot. Could be an opening scene in a film.

As Stuart says, good reflections and the church adds interest on a dull day.

I like that!

A nice start Bill and I like the church poking through the trees.

That's a beautiful capture, Bill. Like the portrait format to enhance the tall trees and the colour is very pleasing.

Good composition... and a lovely little church.

Nice shot as always Bill. I'd expect nothing less from you!

Nice one Bill :)

A lovely image, Bill - I like the full reflection of the tall trees and the white church nestles neatly in the middle distance. Good luck with the rest of your 52.

Thank you all I appreciate all of the kind words.

Week #2 - Incomplete:

"While all of his friends were fully dressed for the cold, Jasper insisted on going out without his cap..."

From the book, The Incomplete Truffle by M. Room (aka "The Fun Guy"). :D

Interesting take, I like the abstract nature of the image

Good take on the theme the blurred fungi in the back give the connection to the incomplete one

Thanks Allan, yes, I had to "work the scene" to get Jasper's fellow into the background... :)

Spot on for the theme, you almost had me on the backstory!

Good colours and nice use of shallow DOF; given you "arranged" the composition, I'm distracted a little by the imposing stick in the foreground.

Thanks Graham, no arranging done other than cleaning the top off Jasper.

I'm usually one for not cleaning up a scene before I shoot it. I like that "as is" vibe...

Glad you liked the story though!

Nicely done Bill. A nice full frame despite the shallow dof. Not mushroom for anything else (gets coat) :)

It's a good take on the theme I certainly wouldn't have thought of something like that. I like the story and the dof you used too.

Great DOF, I'm assuming you were low down to the ground, certainly looks like you didn't have much room to manoeuvre (this spelling looks strange but apparently correct!!) yourself. Are you using a macro lens?

I like the colours, great choice of dof too.
Thanks Nicky, it's actually an 8-shot focus stack, combined in PS.

Thanks Simon, the story drove the shot for once.

Thanks Stuart, the camera was right down on the ground. I love my "flippy" screen!

Week #3 - Artificial

I was walking around Vancouver yesterday (I went down to see the Chinatown parade and celebrations) and I saw this artificial tree artwork in front of Nordstrom's and thought that it would make a good subject for a Pep Ventosa-inspired "photo-in-the-round". This is not quite an "in-the-round" image as the tree was too close to the Skytrain terminal to get shots of all sides (maybe a 2/3's round :D ).

This is one of the static shots to give you context. The rabbit is there as this installation is to celebrate the Year of the Rabbit:

And this is the result of 14 images taken as I walked around the tree. Edited in Lightroom and combined in Photoshop:

I love this, I've done similar things myself but never got a result this good.

I really like this image. Must give it a try when I find something that will work.
