Hi All

Well having completed one years worth how can I resist a second year's worth of angst, pain and missed deadlines :)

So here we go :) This thread will be for the 'Simon' 52s

I will also be doing another personal '12' with 6 shots per month on a theme of my (and maybe one other's) choosing :)

More of a monthly project to test me out on a variety of shots/styles around a single theme

The first months theme will be 'Transport' - not a subject I work a lot with so thats a challenge in itself.

Those images will have their own thread - this one is for the 52s :)

I will endeavour to comment on as many as I can (and there are a lot!)

Good luck all :)

Ah, but are you posting the monthly one in this Forum as it's still a challenge?

Looking forward to seeing both sets and I'm sure architecture will crop up at some point :lol:

Hi John,
looks like your going to be very busy, will be following with great interest.

Good luck with both projects John, I will be watching with interest.

I wouldn't have enough self-discipline to chose my own theme as you are doing for your '6 a month' - I'd just give myself really easy topics - so I shall watch with great interest. :D Mind you, you could have a whole month of GRUNGE!

I'll be watching both sets with interest, John and wish you the best of luck, with no angst or pain. ;)

Jean

ahem! ;)

Good luck with both projects John - good to see you are keeping up the tradition of leaving the TP 52 shot till sunday ;):D

Ooo, lovely colours Mr M!

...and on theme, so a big thumbs up from me. I really like it! Reminds me of the 'hull' shot someone else posted. Stunningly simple.

Great colours and shape. Don't think you could have framed that any better. Very nicely done

I love the simple ideas, the red against the white is great.

Big thumbs up from me aswell John, the DOF, composition, detail are spot on - oh, very patriotic

Agree with all that's been said.
I like the colours, framing and subtle texture.
Nice one. :-)

Love the simplicity! There are times when less is more & this is certainly the case here. Nice one.

Rob.

 I love it John.
(and it was worth waiting until Saturday for ;) :p )

You always do so well with these type of shots. DOF works perfectly and I love the simplicity of the red and blue against the white.
Spot on for the theme too.

Short and sweet, but I really can't think of anything else to say! It's a fantastic start to 2010.

Well done John, what a great shot to start the year off  I agree with Jean, it's a very much a Dark Star shot that one...

with Dark Star written all over it.

Has it ever! Great start John - simple but very effective. I really do think you have developed a style of your own and that can only be a good thing

Gawd, another one who's raised the bar already

I can only repeat what's been said already, excellent, brilliant, simple, clean, great DoF, fantastic composition. :notworthy::notworthy::notworthy:

God, that one works so well - just like the previously mentioned 'hull shot'. The curvature is superb, the stitches stand out lovely with some beautiful detail - and I can't resist such a nice blue. Stunner

Nice shot John, everything about it hits the mark!

I can't really add more to what's already been said, so I'll just say I'm loving it and I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with next!

Love texture on the stiching! The stiching really contrasts to the white ball and the curve of the ball really helps lead your eye around the image :)

Thanks to everyone for such a postive reaction to my first weeks shot :) It really is appreciated - I will try to get round all your 52s soon but its a mammoth task as I'm sure you all appreciate :) I have a poem lined up and now need an image :) So thats this weeks task!

I'm pleased that my 'style' is recognisable :) But this year I need to move out of my comfort zone so expect some different stuff going forward!

...and yep that baseball has never been used :D

spot on exposure and composition
fits the theme nicely too
well done John!

Thanks for those comments folks :) Much appreciated and I will catch up on yours this weekend :)

Here's my poetry shot....some of you may know my bro' is a bit of a poet and I asked him if he'd be kind enough to write something to accompany the image here :) He knocked the poem up in record time for which I thank him :)

Gnome Alone

Have you all seen Home Alone?
It's about forgetting
One boy, I'm the gnome alone
In a winter setting.

But this is no movie script
Or filmed screen adventure,
Here by frosty ground I'm gripped
On an ice-cold venture.

My last owner had had enough
Of his great big garden,
Poured concrete (how I hate the stuff)
Till it came to harden.

His green-fingered quality
Ended, sick of mowing
While my gnome-like jollity
Bugged him into throwing

Me away, he drove far for
Dumping this small grand shape,
Self esteem goes down when you are
Fly-tipped on the landscape.

Stuck here till December's freeze,
Snow fell, see it glisten
My accordion I still squeeze
With no-one here to listen.

Now abandoned I am free,
Though I've packed my job in
It's a change of scenery
And I've met a robin.

Just a gnome alone who must
Wait, snowdrifts now are legion
When they thaw I'll have life sussed
In this forest region.

I wondered where this was going when I saw the pics pop up on Flickr yesterday. I don't get poetry... it's like writing a story in sentences that don't make sense. I'm struggling this week... mine is going to be cringeworthy when I post. :(

A nice enough pic John... I just struggle with the whole poetry thing.

Hah! Love your bruv's poem and it goes with your gnome pic really well. :-)
Now about the pic...
Did you superimpose it there? The light looks a bit odd but the snow's well exposed. ;-)
