I have a Sabretooth 990FX motherboard still in box. I am still buying parts and parts and part to collect, getting it all ready for building my own computer.
At the moment, I am looking into buying a CPU cooler for my AMD FX series CPU.
I'm just interested in the Be Quiet Dark Rock 3 or the Dark Rock Pro 3 CPU cooler. I have not make a decision to put it on my shopping list yet, just looking and thinking about it.
I'm just checking for clearance, spaces around, checking if it will fit or not, and so on. I noticed something.
According to the Dark Rock PDF manual, according to those YouTube video clips, according to various photos and pictures I see, it needs to be screwed to the motherboard.
But my Sabertooth 990FX don't seems to have any holes for it. It do have this kind of housing on both sides of the CPU socket, ready for a normal heatsink and fan unit to be clipped on. Am I missing something?
There seems to be nothing on Google to suggest what to do before installing according to manual, YouTube videos, etc.
Am I supposed to unscrew the housing unit on sides of the socket (for AMD's own heatsink and fan), take it off, and bingo, I have the screw holes for the Dark Rock cooler???
