weekly Dan Hardwick 52 Challenge - Week 7,8 & 9 Bold, Relax and Vertical added

Sorry Dan but it's not for me. I'm no great fan of high key shots, I feel they are the equivalent in optical terms of turning up the treble too much in audio. I like my bass, my darkness. That said, it certainly fits the theme and is well-executed.

Thanks for commenting even though its not your thing, most would just pass on by. Photography is subjective after all.

I do like, Dan.
I'd love to know how you did it, because someone had to be holding the pouring glass, yes? How did you get rid of the hand?
Too many questions
I think I lack the PP skills for this malarkey :)

Thanks, it was two shots which were merked in PS, I held the glass at the top for one and at the bottom for the other and then ovelrlaid them and dleted the part of the layer with my hand in.

I was fortunate that the angle and water level were the same between the shots, more luck than judgement I think.

I dont often do this kind of PP, mostly limit myself to Dark room type adjustments but I thought this would be a bit of fun.

Hi Dan ... I generally prefer low key to high, but I really like your faded comic effect it adds to the illusion. Nice idea, and thanks for the PP tip.

Nice piece of jiggery pokery there Dan, I too like it

Hi Dan

Watery....really like the high key effect & that you haven't lost any of the detail in the water

Elegant...yup ,how do they manage to look so elegant doing that ?? Cracking detail in the snow as well (y)

Hi Dan

the skier is a great shot, especially taken on the fly! Often snow looks grey and altho you have some grey the sun has lit up the middle part just right

watery - very clever - I like clever shots, I did the upside down bottle one for my last 52s - the only slight crit is that the top glass edge has faded into the BG. But I only know this because I been working on my lighting skills lol :)

Hi Dan. That's a good idea for watery and I like the way joy did it. I like high key but I do think it is a little too bright so lost detail in the glasses, but that's more to personal taste I suppose. Well done.

Hi Dan,

Your elegant photo fits the theme nicely. Great composition too :)

I love the watery shot. Very clever work! I've been sat here for 5 mins trying to figure out how you achieved it and then saw you mentioned how. Awesome shot.

Lovely high key image for watery. I think I might have liked it more if the glasses were plain  Some good PP work there

Hi Dan - watery, great idea, very creative and really cleverly done. Having said that I'm not a fan of high key, sorry

Hey Dan.... Brilliant watery shot. The high key works for me and your PP wizardry is amazing on it - great stuff!

Elegant - I’m not a skier but can see the elegance in the pose of the subject going down the slope. The positioning of the skier is also spot on. Also the exposure has been extremely well handled for such a bright scene

Watery - Nice shot and nicely executed. The high key approach really works with your chosen subject. The nice touch is the inclusion of the bubbles in the bottom glass that the water is falling into

Hi Dan
Nice work for watery.. I do like the high key.

Crap..crap...crap....lost my web connection after I clicked Post Reply.

The gist was .....I like it :)

Cheers.

Elegant - great image I like it sking is not something I have ever had a go at doing.

Watery - great image, I like the high key contrast to it nice sharp detail works well.

Watery - :agree: except I think it works high key :)

Excellent idea and execution for watery, it works for me!

Thank you all, and I mean All for your great comments, seems the high key caused a split, a bit like marmite. Im really glad you like the images.

I cant apologise enough for my distinct lack of return comments, life, work and DIY have just taken over recently. I am posting my latest three shots tonight and will get round to some comments too.

If you can find it in your hearts to keep commenting it will be very much appreciated. Keeps me getting my camera out each week.

Weeks 7,8 & 9 Posted

Ive been quite busy with a lot of things recently so haven't been on here or out with camera, Im determined to get this finished though and not lose my way at week 9 like the last two.
Im concerned that i havent been anywhere near commenting for a little while now and I aim to correct that soon.

Here are my three images top bring me back on track.

In Memory of the Bold and the Brave, we have many many war memorials scattered around the country in memory of those men who fought for our freedom many years ago. This one stands all alone making it perfect for a beautiful sunset and silhouette.

Week 7 - In memory of the Bold by danhardwick, on Flickr

Taken with my Phone as I couldnt carry my camera with me, here is a momentary relax with a scone and a coffee half way through a 50 mile training ride. Not the best shot and the focus has missed the coffee mug but you sometimes just have to make do with what you have got.

Week 8 - Relax by danhardwick, on Flickr

Finally this weeks image and a reason for my lack of presence on here for the last few weeks. DIY, and getting the door frame vertical. Some jobs have been in progress for a little while, however Ive got a new deadline as my wife will be giving birth sometime around July and it all needs to be done.
Best get my finger out.

Week 9 - Vertical by danhardwick, on Flickr

I think my favourite of the three is "Relax". The push bike gives it context which makes it into a photo of interest rather than just a "hit the theme and move on" shot. Phone camera proves yet again that it's not the equipment, it's how you use it.

All the best to you and your wife. Sometimes life takes precedence. It's ok to have the scooby doo wavy lines over a couple of months and just carry on in August when you shoehorn every subject into something relating to babies. My longest attempt was week 21 so I've got a way to go before my "wall".

Thanks I agree with the camera, it can make a good shot better but a good shot needs so much more than just a good camera.

I'm sure I will have some catching up to do after July and you are right there maybe some baby shots.

Bold, I too thought it was Vertical, nice idea and my favourite of the 3

I absolutely love all of these :)

Hi Dan

Bold
I like the silhouette, but without you explanation i would have thought bold...

Relax
Great idea.. nice image for a phone.

Vertival.
Works for me.. i can see a few spirit levels cropping up for this theme.

Yeah there are a few. It's a bit easy I suppose. But I needed to catch up.
Thanks for stopping by.

Bold, I too thought it was Vertical, nice idea and my favourite of the 3

Very true, could be used for both. Thanks for commenting .

I absolutely love all of these :)

Brilliant glad you like them. Thanks very much.

Hi Dan,

I like all three (but I did mistake your bold for vetrical :). I'm very impressed with your phone shot I think it's the best of the 3 - I can never hold mine steady enough, I usually just get a blur  :$

It's a nice idea for vertical too. I hope you get all the DIY done before your wife has the baby :)

Thanks , I think my wife hopes so too. Should be ok, loads of time. :o

I tweaked the settings on the phone to get it to look better then a little bit of white balance adjustment in Lightroom.

I'd shot the bold before vertical was announced just didn't post. I should have kept it for that subject.

Hi Dan

Bold ... glorious ... love the silhouettiness , and incredible detail in those trees under that dramatic shy.

Relax ... nice image but needs a focal point.

Vertical ... great idea ... good focus on the .. erm ... spirit.

Hi Dan, some great shots taken since I last commented, the stand out for me is the watery shot, I think it works really well and it's well executed. Really like your relax image, hours spent on a bike is something I can relate to at the moment.

Stick with it mate, I'll drag you past week 9 if I have to.

Hi Dan

Relax I like, but one thing bugging me is the coffee in the saucer

Vertical....Ah!!! So that's what a spirit level's supposed to look right when used correctly!!

love the silhouette of the bold image.
relax: great way to take time out and replace calories when out on the bike.
verical. Great, even the level is straight :)

Great mini catch up Dan 3 good shots with your bold picture being the pick of the bunch
