Just been for a walk along our local canal, now ok it's pretty much rural and to be honest I don't much mind if dog pooh is left on the edges, it degrades quick enough, especially in this wet weather
But what does annoy me is those bloody conscientous walkers who pick it up in a plastic bag then ..........................wait for it ................................throw the bag in the hedgerow, WTF is that all about and why bother to decocate the hedge with bags of various colours

That is one thing that has always amazed me. You go to the bother of picking it up then hang it on a tree, gate post in one recent case, or simply sling it.

In the Scottish highlands they have signs which say "Pick it or flick it". in other words pick it up in a bag and take it away with you or flick it into the long grass and off the path. seems to work well. As you say it degrades pretty quickly.

What annoys me around here is the signs every few hundred yards with "Dog fouling carries up to £1000 fine" etc. but only bins at entrance or visitors centre with miles of paths in between. You see parents pushing their child in a pushchair with a bag hanging over the handle as they want to do the right thing, but have no where to put it once they have.

It's the horse riders I object to. Where I walk my dog there's piles of their poo (well, the horses', not the riders' :)) just left there - no attempt to clear it up - and what's worse is they've left a load of it on a field which is used regularly for kids to play organised football matches. My dog does her best to clear it up for them, but I'm not thrilled with her affectionate greetings afterwards.

The nice thing about dog poo in a bag - lovely hand warmers for weather like this. :D

Report it to the council, that had a case like thison one ofthe tv programmes about cleaningup trash and the guygot hit with a massive fine - essentially finedenough topay for the clearup - he was flinging it 30ft up in the trees, and there were over 100 bags.

We be nice if there were more bins to put the bags of poop in as well.

Thats horrible Tim.:gag: I think thats the worst thing about picking it up. I agree with you about the horse riders

 My Springer used to roll in it then come bounding up to me ---- aaaaaaargh! :gag:

Because the human race it littered with retards incapable of operating with any common sense.

As a fellow dog owner, I find it insane that somebody would take the time to bag up the poo to only throw the bag back down or in hedgerows. Where I live and walk my dog, there are plenty of poo bins!

This only slightly iritates me less than those owners who let their dogs do their business and then walk off leaving the mess for anybody to walk into.

It will be only a matter of time before we get banned from exercising our pets on public playing fields because of the thoughtless behaviour of a few idle gits.

Fox poo - all dogs seem to thing it's better than Channel no 5 or something.

I remember reading something about you don't have to pick up in certain places - fields, heathland?

But we also have the bag flingers around where I live. My dog goes in the garden first thing in the morning before her walk. One of the conditions of havign a dog is my wife does the poop scooping in the garden - so I don't have to do any :D Much easier with a spade anyway.

The odd occasion my dog does foul she goes so far off piste into the woods, only the bears would complain

got to agree, I would rather it was left than bagged and hung, that really gets on my nerves and it happens a lot in the country park we walk our dogs in. Mind you, again, its a very large area and I have counted only 4 bins in total, so hardly surprising sometimes.

I like the 'pick it or flick it' campaign though

As for fox poo, no idea why dogs think its the bees knees but they all do! :gag:

The difference though is that horse poo isn't a health hazard, dog poo is. Also, it's not really practical for riders to get off and pick it up.

We have a dog and use the bins as should every other dog owner,

I too hate seeing all those poo bags in trees it disgusting :bang: and they be there forever :bang:

Annoys me too, we have a few flick or or pick it places locally and they always seem cleaner. Other places I apply common sense to be honest, if I'm somewhere where it won't be a hazard and nobody will step in it I flick it, otherwise always pick it up.

I do think where appropriate flicking needs to be encouraged though, a local public walkway only really used by dog walkers most people just flick it and it's always cleared up by slugs and such by the next morning anyway, saves a load of plastic being used. The hedges are such nobody would step in it either.

theres a nice country park near to us where we take our two dogs and there is one bin at the start of the long walk and that place gets littered with the poo bags in the bushes
also some local fields which are marked out for football pitches same again there only two bins for a massive area
i suppose if they put more bins then they have to pay somebody to empty them

whos thrilled about anything?

im agreeing with marc that horse poo is essentially just mushed up grass.

OK then, Wisemen poo is essentially mushed up steak and chips.;)

I agree, i dont see the point of just leaving it. I sometimes pick mine up in a bag and stash it somewhere to pick up on the way back so i dont have to walk around for an hour with some dog poop in my hand lol

We have wardens who spy on dog walkers if he/she saw you hide it they would probably think you were hiding it to leave it there and youd get a fine, try proving your intent to return and pick it up, theyd think Likely story

The same applies to Wakefield and they do go after owners who bag it and leave it.

It's not something I personally take advantage of, but I do know someone who does.

I didnt know you knew me! Im a fan of the winter handwarmer, i have two jack russells, so just enough for each pocket :gag:

I hate people that bag it and throw it in the trees........

We once got accused of leaving some, the warden tried to claim that we didn't pick it up...... problem was, and how it didn't see it i dont know, the poo he claimed was our dogs was nearly as big as her!!!

They sit in their vans round here and catch the buggers! Quite a proactive council we have....

So how do you cook it????:cuckoo:

People complaining there are not enough bins, try taking it home where everbody has a bin, so still no excuss for littering and never will be.

When I had dogs, we used nappy sacks and would take it home and bin it.

One day I was standing on the train going into the city and could not work out what the dreadful smell was. Guess what I had forgotten to bin that day ?

Blimey I never realised it was a countrywide problem
No matter how few bins there are still no excuse, we only have 2 in the entire village, when I pick it up I just carry it till find a bin or get home

excellent..

Fairly easily....

Take a large amount of horse dung, mix with dropped leaves, some ripped up newspaper, pruned hedge and rose trimmings plus any organic kitchen waste, place in a walled enclosure (pallets make a good one), cover with old carpet and leave to self heat at about 35-50° for 3 to 5 months turning every couple of weeks. End result, perfect garden fertilizer.

My grandfather used to love it when horses crapped in the lane outside the house, or down the bridle path - he was out with his wheel barrow and spade in seconds whilst it was still steaming!

I spend at least an hour per day walking in the country and dog related things seem the main hazard. If it's not the massive piles of poo every few yards there are then walkers who seem incapable of controlling their dogs.

Just the other day I had a dog jump up at me that was coated in mud and when I told the owner that it's not going to look good going back to work coated in mud (it was my lunch hour) the owner seemed to imply that I should not be wearing clothes that need to be kept clean when out walking! :bang:
