Why are some L Series lenses white and some are black?

Does that mean there's a quality difference between them?
e.g. 24-105 f4 = Black
70 - 200 f4 = White

The white lenses are Canon Luxury lenses. Generally the ones that Pro's and amateurs with more money than sense use (like me). They are generally long focal lengths and are as good as can be for the focal length and Fno for Image Quality.
They are also built like tanks and are often weather sealed.
Canon also do L that are black and have a red band around the top of them

So we with the white lenses can show off!!!
The larger teles seem to only be in the off white/putty colour - probably a 'clever' marketing decision from Canon. The togs that use them at footy matches etc definitely stand out
I heard that Canon had the copyright on using this colour for lenses, but this is probably BS. I did see a Nikon lens recently in an off-white colour which compounds my theory...
So we with the white lenses can show off!!!

it is considered that the large telephoto would be out in sun i.e. action and unable to cope with sun intensity heating the tube, white reflects, therefore keeping cool. The colour of lens does not donote lower grade quality, due to physical size

Purely a status symbol 
I will explain................
I was at an event recently I was "away" from the action, and so using a 70-200L ( in white of course)
The official tog was a lot closer to the action and using what I took to be a 24-105 ( in black of course)
I saw him checking me out once or twice.........
A little later he produced a white lens and laid it on a table near where he was working, I never saw him attach that lens all day...................
As I said purely a status symbol
