Hi all i am looking into getting a Nikon flashgun.

The one i have in mind is the SB-900 but im not sure if my D90 has the built in remote i have been reading about to fire the flashgun of camera remote.

Does anybody have any idea if my camera will manage to do this?

Yes, the D90 has the commander mode and will work with the SB-600, SB-800 and SB-900 flashes just fine. Would two SB-600's not work better for you than one SB-900?

is that how it works then? any idea what is the max distance this works at?

I swapped my SB-900 over for Volusian's 2 SB-600s a while back, felt like a good move to me (although I ended up only needing 1)

Well i did'nt have a distance in mind just looking for info on the flashgun.

The Nikon CLS on the SB-900/D90 works at a range up to about 30ft, but the camera must be able to "see" the flashgun in order for it to work,as it uses infrared light as a trigger. The Cactus and other such radio triggers which will work over several hundred feet and don't need to be in a direct line with the camera, but will only allow use of the flash in manual mode.

You'll be fine with the D90 and the SB900.

I recently bought the SB900 to use with my D90 and its great!
