...and they will reply with either "D80? Never heard of it mate" or "Ah, the D80, Nikon haven't told us when we'll be getting it, very hard to come by, try again in six weeks, blah, blah, blah....."

:D

I had a browse in Jessops window yesterday and I have to say the D200 looks a well made substantial bit of kit. I think they had it marked up at 1100 quid which no doubt is far from the best price, but at that price, I'd definitely be stretching the bit extra for the D200. That's not to take anything away from the less expensive models, but there seems a huge leap in build quality at a really great price.

Not that I'll be deserting Canon any time soon. ;)

Can relate to that totally, saw one at my local last week and it looked very impressive in construction

Needless to say the next day when I went in it was gone.

And just to make something very clear :canon:

Exactly what convinced me to go for a "nearly new" D200 for £800 instead of a "brand new but when will I be able to get one anyway" D80 - Can't compare it to any of the big Canons but the build quality, brightness of the viewfinder & size of the LCD are a joy to behold! Probably more noticealbe if you go from a D50 to a D200 like I did but one of the better decisions I have made recently whilst battling with "upgraditis nervosa" :cuckoo:
Paul :nikon:

Don't knock Nikon guys

Even though I'm also a CANONfan you have to appreciate the build quality and nice weight of the Nikon cameras.

They should THROW BEAUTIFULLY AND MOST LIKELY FLY FURTHER THAN HALF A BRICK!!!:D

I feel left out, please MODS can you make an "I love Konica Minolta" smiley for me and Peter.

I see Onestop are advertising the D80 body only for £569.

Saw one in Jessops in Newcastle today and found it to be only a bit larger than a Canon 350D, looked more chunky though, was surprised to find that it was actually smaller than the D70

So it doesnt step on the D200's feet i imagine ;)

I was in the Bullring in Birmingham today and they had 4 D80's in stock.

I looked at it through the glass but resisted the temptation to play with it (dont know what i'm doing with my D50 so no point trying the D80) :D

Hi there!

D200 is defenetly more strudy then a D80. I've read several accounts of the D200 being droped in water (actually submerged in water) and then just picked it up and continued what they ware doing prior (hint: taking photos) without any faults. If you do that with D80 it will most likley not start again. D200 is also made of magnesium and D80 is made out of plastic. The D200 is not as sealed as a D2X or equal but it is defenetly solid and can take quite a beating.

I'm thinking of getting myself a D200 (I'm a nikonian, I like Canon aswell but I prefere nikon as I've handeled them on and off for around 10 years now and I have nikon equipment so it would be foolish to go Canon) but I'm still left in the stonage Film world, will probebly be even if I do buy the D200 (or possibly the D80)

I can certainly vouch for the D200's build - while I've not managed to submerge it (yet ¬_¬) I did recently throw it with quite some force onto some rocks. I figured that there'd be some serious damage - but it's not even scuffed!

:nikon:

My D50 will do me just fine for now, until I become rich and famous, then I might invest in a D80.
