My built in flash on my D80 is basically broken.

When you pop it up, it pops up, but then doesnt fire. Also, when I put the camera in one of the auto modes when the exposure reading reads that it needs flash it should automatically pop up, and it does this. But when you half press the shutter, it makes a clicking sound as though it's still trying to release the flash.

I've had my camera about 19 months, what are my options?

Any help would be brilliant

I've seen the onboard flash stick down on a D80 before, where it had never been used, but opening and closing it a few times seemed to ease things off and it worked fine after that.

tried that but with no prevail, stick clicking away. i did use mine quite a bit before it happened however

The D40 is prone to the flash packing up, never heard of it with a D80 though. The D40 problem appears to be the microswitch that tells the camera when the flash is open, iirc it's about £100 to sort .

well my girlfriends dad is a electrical engineer and is always taking things apart and fixing them/putting new bits on so i might get him to have a look, cus i dont use my built-in flash anyway i just would like to have the option to use it is i need to

It'll be one of those things where the part is £2 and the rest is labour. If it turns out you need a part and can't get it from Nikon pm me, I've got a destroyed D70 lying here and I'd imagine the switch will be the same.

was the camera registered with nikon for the 2 year warranty

If it's 19 months old it won't have been, that offer didn't start until September 2007...

digging up an old thread here

but would it be worth while getting it repaired? when i don't really have need for it, i use by SB-800 most of the time now.

Was just thinking of re-sale etc.
