Does anyone know if I can bypass memory card slot 1, as I have managed to break a small section of a memory card & my camera now shows a card error. I have a second card that I use for back-up in slot 2, but the camera is showing the card error message. I can't see the piece of broken card in the slot, at most it is only about 1mm in size

Help, no camera for Xmas

I'll also need to get it repaired so any ideas with that would be welcome

Under warranty, I reckon Nikon will blame the SD card manufacturer.. or you, but it's worth a shot. If not, Fixation are pretty much the best with Nikon.

I'm not aware of any means of bypassing slot 1.

Maybe it's worth blowing some compressed air in there with the slot facing down... see if you can dislodge it.

Just wondering, if you put a locked card in slot 1 will it write to slot 2? Probably not I suppose

i'll try it.. hang on

[edit]

Nope.. it flashes "CARD".

It should work for a functioning camera, but I was was wondering if the OPs faulty one would let it work.

It doesn't work in a functioning camera either - just flashes "card"

Works for mine, so maybe something in the settings needs changing too.

Doesn't here. If I have a locked card in slot 1 and an open card it slot 2, it doesn't skip slot 1. it just flashes card.

[edit]

Works if you set the role of card 2 to overflow!! Maybe that's your Xmas stopgap until it's repaired. Give it a go.

Sounds like damaged connectors in the SD card socket then. :(
