D700 - sports - choice of card

During a bout of depression and shortage of money during lockdown, I sold my D500. The last running event I covered was at the end of March last year. I have a D700 with a Compact Flashcard - San Disk Extreme 120MB . Would I see a significant icrease in WRITE speed by purchasing the 160MB?

Not sure about 160MB, but increases in card speeds are only of benefit in clearing the buffers, and should not affect the FPS, either more or less, until the buffer is full, and then the card speed affects how fast the buffer clears to enable the camera to get back to its maximum FPS.

If one keeps their finger mashed down on the shutter, depending on the camera and card combination, the fastest FPS may not be achievable beyond a certain point, because the camera never gets back to having enough free memory. Sometimes releasing the shutter briefly can help a lot in getting back to maximum FPS. Hope that helps, unless I have got the wrong end of the stick.

Usually RAW but I suppose jpg may be the way forward. I'll try a few things out on Sunday.

For mass participation events athletics I never shoot raw, unless specific promo images.

Sorry to hear that - hope you’re feeling better.
Going against the grain - I always shoot raw for sporting events. It’s a topic for a different discussion.

That said - you may see an increase in write speed - however from memory I can’t remember how fast the bus is in the D700.

I shot a D3s with two 120 cards and never really had a problem.

For a running event - I’d be surprised if you’re up against the buffer using a d700 tbh.
