D700 again..!

What's wrong with the 14-24 AF-S  .. did you not have one?

I did and its superb. Easily the best wide angle out there for edge to edge sharpness.

However there are two "gotchas" with this lens.

One is incidental - neither the D3 or the D700 (or the "D3X") have a base ISO of 100. The "boosted" ISO100 is the same as shooting ISO200 +1 EV in terms of DR.

So for a landscaper, this means its you really would like to be using ND filters (to slow shutter) or to use a ND Grad for ISO100 shots (compensate for the "Boosted" DR loss) and you just can't do it with the 14-24.

I used the Nikkor 17-35 which is damn good - its not as good as the 14-24 wide open (nothing is), BUT optically the 17-35 is still damn fine, and being able to use a Cokin "P" filter and drop in some Hightech Grads is worth far more to me than the increase in wide open and corner performance you get from the 14-24.

I should say that I care more about DR than most from shooting with a Fuji S5 Pro, the Fuji camera still easily beats the D700 for DR.

Lastly, while I consider the 14-24 a superb lens, I don't see it being as a Nikkor 17-35 replacement. I see these two lenses as being aimed at very different photographers.
