My dads just bought my sister a d40x for christmas but has said to me i can swap my d40 for it for £50....do i do it, d40x is brand new, my d40 is only a week old.
Is it really worth it?

The only differences worth considering in my opinion are; Minimum ISO100 over ISO200 of the D40, and 10Mp instead of 6Mp. Are those two features worth £50 to you?

and 3.0fps continuous shooting over 2.5 fps of the d40. tbh probs not, could spend the £50 on something else.
I'd like to know how much of a difference the 4mp makes though.

What size are you planning to get pics printed to? You'll just about get an A4 print out of a 6mp sensor without noticeable drop in quality or interpolating too much, if you want to regularly print larger then you might notice the difference. We have printed full page photobook pics from my old D30 which is only a 3.25mp and that's not been a problem so far, so to be honest it's probably not worth it.
