Beginner D3100 FLASH ISSUES

I'm relatively new to photography and I've ran into an issue with my nikon d3100, when taking photos at a safari park, the camera sounded like it was exploding every time it was taking a photo, smelling like an electrical fire aswell
After further investigation, it was the inbuilt flash that kept flashing, despite it not being up.

What should it do???

You could try popping the flash up and putting it down again.

There's a microswitch that should switch off the flash when it's down, it might reset, or it might need a repair.
