through a conversation i had with my dad aout the d300 ( hes a d200 owner)
he mentioned to me about a few problems people are having with th d300 ( im after one)
so that got me hunting around on the forum.
i know people only post the bad and never the good, but its still something that could stick in your mind when your buying/using one.
the camera seems to overheat and stops the AF ability
and also the battery to dies for no reason,
heres a couple of quotes ive taken from other forums/thread
its quite a long thread so if you fancy a read its here http://www.flickr.com/groups/nikon_d300_users/discuss/72157604028510665/

Hi, Folks.
Some have read my earlier post concering random power failures on my D300. I know the cause of the problem now, and I believe it is important enough to warrant a new thread.
It seems the failures are being caused by the play between the D300 body and the 70-200 f.2.8 VR. I can rock the lens right to left (CC/ CCW) and shut down the system. It comes right back up if I turn off the power and turn it back on again. To make sure it was the VR, I tried the same thing with the 17-55 f/2.8DX, and I could't get it to fail.
I have been in contact with Nikon, and they "said" they have never heard of this happening (lucky me. . . .). They have asked me to send the lens in. Projected turnaround is three weeks.
I would suggest everybody who owns the 70-200 f/2.8 VR test for this issue.
Very important to those considering purchasing a used 70-200 f/2.8 VR (!!!): Used lenses are not covered by the Nikon warranty. If you purchase a used 70-200 f/2.8 VR, you may be taking a risk of having to pay to repair the lens if you end up with the same issue.
I'll keep the group posted.
was just shooting a dance festival last night w/ my 80-200 f2.8 ED and had a lot of problems with itIn the middle of shooting, it would quit focusing and my shots (if I could take one) were blurry. Was getting error messages with a little triangle picture up top.
Like HMetal, I've got play CW/CCW between the lens + body. I don't recall having that before when I went on a shoot recently w/ Alfie in Tokyo. However, I may have overlooked it in my zeal of having a nifty new lens.
Last night when I had this problem, turning the power off and back on seemed to fix the issue. Worried me/made(makes) me grumpy.

D300
Over 8500 clicks
Yesterday the dead battery syndrome attacked my D300 6 times within 30 minutes.
This is the first time for me... I had used the D300 all weekend with different lenses, and had over 200 clicks in the hours before with the 70-200 when the attack happened.
A simple off then on fixed the issue....
What steps should I take? Call nikon and send it in?
Is there one specific culprit of DBS?
The attacks happened just seconds after a single or multiple clicks of the D300... mostly right before attempting to review the images I just took.
hahaah welcome to the DBS club ! we are glad to have you here,
now, have some DeOxit to freshen up and relax![]()
