Right, so i recently said i was looking to upgrade from my D70 and was going to go for a canon but i like my Nikon to much and i know my way around it now

So...........

I got my decisions down to a D300 or D90 but i cant deside between the 2.

Is there anything any one can think of to help me make a decision please

Apart from the obvious that D90 shoots HD

Between those 2, the D300 hands down, unless you either want a more compact body, or you want video (and video you have manual focus at that). D300 is better built, higher fps, bigger buffer, better auto focus system, better weather sealing, similar ish noise performance I believe, list kinda goes on.....

The prices for those second hand now they are too close. They have the same sensor and D90 does video (the D300s does too but it is a lot more expensive, unjustifiably so really).

The D90 is also smaller and lighter and even though prices are the same you can still save 100-150£ by going for it.

If you dont mind though the bulk and weight of the D300 go for it, it will give you much better construction, more controls better AF among other things.

Cheers guy much appreciated D300 it is then :)

I've had both and the D90 suits me better. Smaller, lighter means I take more pics . Sensor is the same so no difference in image quality or iso performance. The AF on the D300 is quality, but if you don't shoot fast moving objects you'll never need it. The extra buttons etc on the D300 are again nice, but I never find myself going into menus on the D90. It's horses for courses I guess, as a hobbyist like me the D90 , for it's lightweight and small size means I take it on walks and days out more and it doesnt hinder me.

have you actually check out the D7000? You could consider that actually.

A fair amount of a price difference though. Personally I actually prefer the D90/D7000 size, which is why the D7000 is such a good camera a it offers a lot of the build quality of the D300, but in a more compact body. I guess is depends on how much the OP wants to spend.

Totally agree with you. IT depend if he go used or new. If go used then fair enough because D90 and D300 is pretty cheap used now.

If brand new than D300 can out the door because you can get D300s only in shop these days right? which is around £1200 and D90 brand new is around £600 ish.

D7000 brand new is between the two.

Depend what the OP want really. Personally and this is strictly my opinion only. I won't buy D300s brand new at this time simply because D7000 is cheaper and offer alot of features that can compete against the D300s. If you want D300s for sure I would wait till Nikon release a camera that replaces the D300s ........ with all their new technology etc.

The D90 does auto focus in video mode, it just doesn't offer continual auto focus like the D7000. So, once you've auto focused on the D90, you need to either manually focus or film stuff that doens't move!

I've had a D90 and was very happy with it, but given the choice, I would go for the D300.
