Hi all.

My D300 has got a problem and im having issues working out exactly what it could be (I will send it off to Nikon but any help would be appreciated in case I can sort it myself)

Ok this is the problem.

The eyepiece is not showing anything image wise in focus.
The sound and visual focussing is working (so I know its in focus) but the eyepiece image remains out of focus - almost like I have a vaseline covered filter on.
The images themselves are pin sharp and in focus so the mechanism for it all is working fine - its just the eyepiece.
The mirror looks ok. The eyepiece is clean. Removed and used it on my d7000 ok. The glass in the eyepiece in the camera is also clean.
The diopter adjust makes no difference.

Could this be the prism or the mirror?

Any thoughts anyone?

Thanks in advance.

Edd

Have you got some condensation inside from temperature changes ?

Have to agree with Steve sounds like you may have accidently moved the 'Dioptre' wheel.

Erm its not the diopter wheel. As mentioned in the first post - I have already checked this.
Thank you though :)

I dont think its condesation - its been like this for a couple of weeks - in my house in normal temps etc.

Any other suggestions?

Try cleaning the focus screen, could be dirty somehow, although unlikely unless sticky fingers have been poking around the the mirror box.

The Nikon D300 doesn't have sound, it is purely a stills camera.

What im saying is theres an audio beep to confirm focus lock - this works fine

I am wondering if the focus screen (plastic thing at the top of the mirror box) has moved slightly.

Here is a link to changing one, whilst you are not changing the screen it will show how it should look and how it is fixed, so you can establish if all is well.

press the upper button next to the lens, opposite side to the lens release

If your pictures are still in focus, then you'd need to look at the view finder eyepiece prism bit at the top.

Clean the eye part and the upper bit on the inside above the mirror.

If it still persists (yet pics are in focus) then it'll need someone with a bit more experience to fix.

Hope its something you can see/do/clean :)

Good luck!
